View Full Version : Japan wants to start building Giant Robots!
http://kotaku.com/5921304/japanese-politicians-are-thinking-about-building-gundam-like-real-working-gundam/
These politicians probably do not mean they want to make a 60-foot tall, 43.7 metric ton Gundam replica (at least I hope they don't), but instead, large mecha contraptions that could be used by, presumably, the country's Self Defense Force. In an age of drone attacks, however, mecha don't exactly seem ideal on the battlefield.
I vote for surrender, there is no hope in defeating an army of Giant Robots. :O:

Aaah, yes, the failing attempts of a government to try and buy the otaku vote. Hideously impractical, and most likely unable to get past Article Nine of the constitution.
Smaller robots for rescue work are a good idea though, but they are not as big and exciting as Gundams. :O:

Instead of building a big robot, how about a million small ones that could protect the country's borders and other important locations from an invasion force.

And together, those smaller robots will form........

Always preferred the vehicle one!
:haha:
Well, the 'Charlene' that FPSRussia demonstrated a while back was quite impressive, I won't link to it but it's not hard to find. A Quadrotor with a machine gun and an explosive self destruct.

I was thinking the robots would be more like this:

This is Japan, right? Should`t they make MechaGodzilla or something?

Realistically, what possible advantage could a Bipedal articulated piece of equipment have over a set of caterpillar tracks? The H/K's from the terminator universe are more practical then mecha's.

but then again, who would mess with Japan if they had a working Gundam?
what'da you mean, they don't already have one.

I'm not worried, I'm sure we can develop countermeasures... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZR_lCObJVJk&t=2m54s)
So long as they don't work on the Human Instrumentality Project then I think we'll be ok.

I know, they'll impress any enemy so much, they'll put down their guard long enough for the Japanese to shoot them while their gawking at the dancing robots. :haha:

Exactly! :smug:
I was in Tokyo a month ago and they do have a Godzilla problem:

I don't know about giant robots, but they might want to build some that could fix/clean-up radioactive areas; you know, in case they should ever have a nuclear emergency again.
Speaking of which, does anybody know if those plant clean-up volunteers are still alive? The reports I heard implied they were doomed men. It was very sad.
