Many historical ships are lost that could have been saved, as one famous WW2 submarine that was sold for scrap for 100,000 dollars and members of the crew I read in Wiki stated we could have all put in money to buy it to stop it being lost. The United States of America currently has a population of 313,741,000.
If someone set up a nation wide marketing program and its own click and pledge account for USS Clamagore, https://www.clickandpledge.com/

Buy a submarine for a dollar!

Advertise it on all the tv media, radio
Tonight shows
Make a movie for YouTube to elicit donors for the Submarine just as politicians have done
Advertise through the navy
Advertise through international submariner naval organizations
Encourage wealthy donors To be part of America's living history.

Let us say 33% of americans are children and cant pay, 33% of people from means that cant pay or wont pay. etc etc etc. Even if only 5% of American citizens donated $1.00 after a strong campaign that would amount to over $15.5 million. Enough to pay for the submarine restoration and any advertising costs.

The USS Clamagore was a Balao-class submarine, built in 1945 and still in training when World War II ended. It had the Guppy II and III modernization and while not an active fighting boat in WW2, still represents the ones that did take part and is the last living memory of its type and those brave men who went out on those vessels not knowing if they would come home in order to save their country from people of lesser ideologies. It must be saved!
Commissioned on 28 June 1945, her 67th birthday is coming up soon!!

Do not forget them, make a donation to this non profit organization. If you wish to donate by check to C/O USS Clamagore, you may make it out to the Patriots Point Foundation and mail it to P.O. Box 309, Mt. Pleasant, SC, 29465.

From what I understand all those museum ships at Patriots Point bring in gobs of cash, more than enough to maintain everthing at those piers and the grounds. However the good ol'boy network in South Carolina tends to divert most of the funds to other pet state projects. To them this is just rusty metal that needs to be removed for another ship or project they might have in mind.

There is a fund established by members of the Clamagore association with help from the USSVI Charleston Base where you can donate $2.00 to help save the Clamagore. DO NOT send any money to the Patriots Point Authority since that can be used for other things. Any money donated to Save the Clamagore will be used only to restore this National Historic Site. The URL is www.savetheclamagore.com You can donate using PayPal or a credit card. We only ask for $2.00 but if we can get enough sub sailors worldwide to contribute we can save this last floating Guppy submarine. Please get the word out to all the subvets you know. Its not too late. :yeah:

Does anyone have an update on the status of the Clamagore?

I was just at Patriots Point, but being a Saturday, no one there at that time really knew. I was told the Clamagore was going to be sunk as a reef.

Go there all the time, one of my favorite places. I thought this was already settled to reef it.

Guess the question is if it can't be saved, what will the money be used for?

Would be great if you could enquire of whoever and post an accurate update...it looks like ETC(SS) is long gone.

Well, I heard it was over for the Clag, but seems that was once a legit group fighting for it.......I'll call my friend down there here in a bit, he should know

Edit....

He says it's a done deal, also found this, probably be moved out by Jan. Said this group has no chance and state ain't gonna let it be moved elsewhere because it's too fragile http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20131101/PC05/131109858

Thanks for the link Armistead.

Two years of fund raising ... huh?!? I just found out about the Clamagore days ago during my first visit to Patriots Point.

... AND ... I never knew of her current plight until now.

... AND ... I never would have known except for the fact I tried to hunt someone down with keys to the conning tower and it was during that search I was told the story.

I'll bet there are plenty of people like me who would donate but never knew.
