View Full Version : RFB 2.0 texture flicker fix?

So, since I was looking for some good old subsimming fun, I recently put SH4 onto my new computer and loaded up RFB, my supermod of choice from back in the day. Once I did, I noticed a problem I had before: some external views have serious texture flickering/z-buffer problems (most notably through the binoculars from the bridge and around the eyes of the crew in the control room). I found someone talking about a similar problem stemming from camera modifications in SH5, so I popped the original Cameras.dat back in over the RFB-modified version, and lo and behold, the flicker was gone. I guess I could dig through the old RFB release notes and see what I'm losing with the original cameras file, but I figured I'd ask here first. What I've noticed so far is that I can't walk around the bridge or the control room anymore. I have that .dat file editor with the punny name-- can I merge the two files somehow while keeping the parts of the original that prevent the flickering?

With Silent 3ditor, increasing the clipping distance on the cameras with bad z-buffer flickering (mainly the binoculars and the periscopes) fixes the flicker, at the cost of limiting your ability to see your own submarine through the optics. I don't mind that loss-- I like moving around with the free camera, but it's okay if I don't have to do so to see around the bridge watch and the shroud.
