Alright, so here it goes. I'd like to re-install SHV to make sure it's clean and re-mod, etc...

Problems: <I don't want to un-install if I don't have a way to re-install the game, heh.>

1) I don't know where I bought the download from><. It's been well over a year since I bought this game.
1a) If I have my code, does it matter where I get the download from?
1b) If I have to get my download from the original place, is there anyway to find out within the installed folders, where I got the download?
1c) If I can use any official SHV download, where can I get one?

2) I mainly used the online save feature from ubisoft and use the points, so do I need to save some of the savegames?
2a) If so, what folders exactly do I need to save? i.e. just the My Doc Cfg folders?

3) Not sure how the reinstalls work for the developer... Do I have a certain number of installs?
3a) If I do, how can I go about saving my number of installs?

If you need any clarifications or have questions, please let me know:)
Thank You for your much needed assistance! :D

P.S. Unfortunately, I am at port in the game right now and don't want to start another patrol until I have this resolved :(

I could be way off here, as I always buy mine on disc, but I think if you got it from Steam it would be in a Steam folder. If it's in a standard SH5 folder you probably got it direct from Ubisoft. If that is the case you can probably contact them through their website.

Considering that you can get one on Amazon for less than $5 US dollars and an equivalent price on other Amazon outlets, you might want to consider just getting a hard copy. If you do you can get there through the link at the bottom of this page.

Thank you Steve for responding:) I do have a standard digital copy. I'd love to have the hard disk but won't be getting one quite yet. I'll have to contact Ubisoft by phone, I suppose, as I didn't see any bought records under my account on their website, which is very odd...

EDIT: I wrote a ticket for ubisoft to see what I can do to get another download version of the game, since I don't remember what credit card or order number I used before><

Any other answers to the above questions in the first post would be very helpful as well, thank you:)

Can anyone attempt to answer any of the first post's other questions as well?

I have some questions:D

Are you sure you need to re-install?
Did you add mods using JSGME?

If you are having ctds that is making you think you need to re-install - try this first:-

Using jsgme - remove all mods
Your mods will still be in the mods folder in your sh5 dir - remove that to desktop
Run the game without mods and start a NEW career
Play to the stage where you were having issues
If issues are gone then you do not need to re-install -and thus ctd was caused by mod settup or conflicting mods

If this was the case - add a new JSGME and run to to make a new MODS folder (do not use your old one)
copy your mods from the old folder to the new one.
Do some reading about the mods to check order of install
If you have too many mods and do not fully understand them - leave some out and stick to the main ones
Start new game and new career. - (if you were getting ctd with mod setup this may not be required and a bunker save may be ok)

If you are still having issues with the game in stock mode(no mods) and do need to re-install - save games may bring the issue back to your new install.

If you do download a fresh copy - keep a copy of the DATA folder so you do not have to do this again.

If you have your U-Play password and user name - I think you can download it from anywhere you find it

I have some questions:D

Are you sure you need to re-install?
Did you add mods using JSGME?

Thank you for responding:D For various reasons, I wanted a certain setup and couldn't get it to work. Thankfully I somehow found my SH5 download exe in an old flashdrive. I decided to reinstall the beast and renew/replace the mods, as according to another thread, just looked to me to me a bit too messed up. Likewise, it was very possible that I screwed up the format of the game somehow, over a year ago. I, with help from TDW, were running into too many issues. It worked, but only with certain mods:)

After many days/hours of experimenting and seeing what works and takes the 'least' amount of tweaking, to get them to work, this is my mod soup now:)

I had been trying the MCCD/MFCM Compatible mod and SDBSM, although great mods, were giving me too many control and sound issues. I'm fine with that. My goal is to keep my mod setup simple whilst having some of the most immersion for me. I'll keep my eyes open for another (perhaps background crew sound mod)that doesn't interfere with the others.

By the by, Trevally... I love your work:D !!! Your comments above will hopefully help others out later, as well:)
