I'm currently doing the campaign mode with high realism. I've completed the two missions....aka Training mission (which is combat apparently) and the Eastern British coastal waters. On the ladder mission.....as I sunk ships...I could see the bar at the bottom "fill up" until I had completed the mission.

Now I'm trying the northwestern approaches mission. My last patrol I sunk 30k tons of shipping all in the vast expanse of the Northern Approaches...and have been shown 0...as in Goose egg....progress on the mission popup thingee....aka...no "fill up" when I sink tonnage.

So my firtst question is...how close do you have to be to the popup button..or arrow that the popup button is on to have the ships you sink "count" towards mission completion? Or is this just a bug. I'm off to play for a bit...but I'll post a screen shot when I come back.

Draw a 200km circle around your patrol zone icon and sink ships within that circle.
The British Supplies area is the big red circle you see when you click on the cross icon on the nav-map.
The Patrol icon and the mission icon are two separate things. Your patrol zone mission orders must be fulfilled first. You'll be credited for "British Supplies" with every ship you sink. But your currant mission (patrol) must be fufilled within a certain radius of the "Patrol zone" icon.
That's why I draw the circle around the Patrol zone, after a day or so (or so many ship sinkings) and you get a Patrol accomplished message. Your free to go anywhere or return to base.
By the way, looking over the map again, are you refering to the "Blockade of Germany"? If you mean that northern aproach line, the five ships you are supposed to sink are anything from "armed merchants" considered warships. There are a few classes of warships that you will need to look for, the easiest being the armed merchants. They usually sail in twos, so if you run across them get both at once. I forget the others but I believe they are corvettes. Just look for small packs of Warships sailing along that line. I don't think DD's or Battleships are considered any of "the 5 ships".
Hope this helps. I don't know of a "Northern Approach" mission unless your much further along than I think.
Gute Jagd.

yeah...I get the Patrol area...and I always complete that first. But the overall missions is what i'm talking about......aka British Coastal waters, Northern Approaches, Southwestern Approaches.

So the Northern Approaches mission (which oddly contains the sink the carrier mission) is an armored merchant mission? How did I miss that?

One more thing......I cant figure out how to post screenshots to this forum.... the "attach Picture" is URL only. Did I miss somthing? Thx for the info.

I convert screenies to JPEGS and then upload them to imageshack. They give you a URL for sharing. Copy that URL into the post.
So far as the "Blockade of Germany/Northern approaches" ships, nobody knew that until someone went into the game files and found out.:O: I even sunk a Brit sub on that line and it didn't count. The ships are a few different types of little warships, but I always completed them by sinking these armed merchants. There easy to spot, over half the time they travel in pairs. That's how you'll know they are the ones to sink. They are warships, but look like passenger merchants. They're also easy, just don't surface 'cause "they're armed".

One thing that makes me think something is not right .....is the text above the bottom bar in the mission objectives box. The First objective is clear...sink 70k tons of shipping....the next task...below this is all FUBAR. I'm assuming, since it pops up the "carrier" patrol area in the southwestern approaches...it is the mission to sink the carrier.

With respect to armed merchant small convoys ....ive sunk two different two ship convoys with no register to the 70k ton bar.

Hi finchOU

That image is showing a clash between the stock campaign and OHII
This is caused by not starting a new career after installing OHII

When a new career is started the campaign is written to your save game folder and this is where the game is looking for some of the info to build the campaign you are on. So with your pic - the cfg command files for the campaign are OHII and when looking for info it is being given stock info.

So there are 2 ways to fix this.

First is to start a new career:cry:
Second is to continue working through this and when you get to the end, the next campaign - Happy Times - will load correctly and everything will sort itself out.

hmmm? I thought I started a new career? I guess I did it incorrectly. Well...can I even pass these missions if I continue?

Thanks Trevally....I'll look into the read me and other posts on OHII and restarting. Thanks for the MODs too. You have made this thing pretty darn good.

Thanks Trevally....I'll look into the read me and other posts on OHII and restarting. Thanks for the MODs too. You have made this thing pretty darn good. There are specific instructions you have to follow in starting a career with OH2 .
Delete the SH5 save game folder in my documents would be a start if you have already played a campaign .
Start a new career and then once the tutorial animations start exit the game and go to your sH5 save game folder . Go to Documents\SH5\data\cfg\CareerHistory
HasCompletedTutorial=true
Start a new campaign and then once in the bunker exit to the main screen and load the bunker save again .
Go click on the technical officer and make sure you can enter the upgrade screen .
Before clicking on the flotilla comander hit esc and go to the ingame options screen and choose your difficulty options .
Esc and go back to the bunker and choose a mission then start the mission .
You must get a loading screen before being placed on the submarine.
