i wanted to practice more on using the heavy flak gun (3.7cm) but can't seem to find a good single mission to practice that.

i used gwx gold and that flak training has become pretty impossible to practice manual flak handling.

is there a way to make the sub indestructible just for this training mission so that i can practice my flak gunnery without the hassle of reloading in less than 30 sec after the mission start?

just wanted more time to practice gunning.

Use the mission editor to create your own. Have increasingly stronger aircraft arrive every 60 secs or so.

On one hand it's best to do the training before installing GWX.

On the other you get the full 1500 renown bonus just for completing the Navigation Training. Everything else is disposable.

And TBH, your best defense against air is the crash dive. And if it's too shallow to submerge, then your probably better off at the helm than the guns. Let the crew shoot while you keep the flank speed boat off the sand bars.

:D i'm just trying to squeeze more fun out of this jewel of a sim.

Its definitely a lot more fun manning the gun myself rather than pointing with the binoculars..

I have tried using the mission editors to hack out a single mission, how to determine how often a new plane arrive?

I can understand that. On the other hand if you're manning the gun yourself it's no longer a sim.

I have a very hard time hitting anything with the AAA. My preference for the 37mm is to save it for small targets of opportunity and blasting searchlights. Battling against aircraft, even if I had multiple flak guns, is a losing proposition in my opinion, given the fragility of the U-boat hull.

Still, there's nothing wrong with target practice. The suggestion of creating a mod is probably the best bet. Good luck and good hunting!

Of course it's opinion. Trolling? Not at all. A 'sim' means a simulator. The captain of a u-boat never fired the deck gun or the flak guns. Hence, if the game allows it, it's not a sim. If you do it, you're no longer simulatiing, you're gaming. That is indeed just an opinion.

A 'sim' simulates the reality, not what's fun.

Start a career in 1944 and sail around the Bay of Biscay for a few days. You might have an opportunity or two to try out your Flak guns. :D

lol that's a very legit reason for being lazy hehehe, just kidding.

I get alot of fun shooting planes from the sub, its dangerous but after all its just a game. and to me the AA guns are like a mini-game within the sim. :yeah:

Of course. My problem is I've been playing subsims since Silent Service in 1985. The only thing that even holds my interest anymore is the historical aspect. For me the fun lies in trying to recreate the actual feel of being there.

i fail at making single missions..

Found an alternative target to practice 3.7cm gunnery though. I use the ships. :D Got some good practice on how to compensate for the constant unstable aim due to sea condition while trying to aim at specific spots on ships (door/window/cargo).

see aircraft, press C, how much practice does it take?

:k_rofl:

Exactly. The flak guns are present to make the player feel better. In practice, it is schmuck bait. The above advice is the only reliable means of dealing with "mosquitoes".
