View Full Version : Buy it, buy it now I tells ya
This probably won't apply to most of the people who frequent these forums but......
Just in case anybody is sitting on the fence re: SHV. Time to come down off it.
With all the work done by the dedicated mod men  this is a game/sim worth buying now. Haven't enjoyed a game this much in a long time. SHIII & IV being the exceptions.
I gave SHV a huge body swerve when it was released due to all the negative comments. Glad I've given it a second glance.
I get so immersed that I stop shaving and washing and hang salami from the ceiling of my PC room. Just kidding, wife would kill me for buying salami. :haha: Saving a fortune on razor blades and soap though. :D
So if you've been undecided, time to buy especially when it's so cheap now.
Buy, install, get mods and kiss goodbye to your wife; girlfriend; dog. You decide in which order. :03:
Back to the hunt. :salute:

You are correct about it being very cheap to buy now and it is tempting as the stock game looks great, but I am still worried about this online DRM thingy. I don't know if I should hold off on the hope that a DRM free version might appear sometime in the future. Mmmmmmm still tempted :hmmm:

A DRM free version is already available isn't it? :hmmm:

Do you mean Ubisoft have finally released a DRM free version? I know about the cracked exe floating around on the net but that would be useless wouldn't it if you wanted to update the game? Admittedly, I don't know very much about SH V

No, Ubisoft removed the DRM requirement from their website more than a year ago. You can select "Play Offline" from the options.

http://www.amibay.com/images/smilies/picard.gif Mega DOH!! I didn't know that. Thanks for that Sailor Steve! :salute:
Now going to hunt for a copy on Amazon
I guess I would need to patch the game first (just after install) before running it?
Wait a minute I just got SH3 up and running with GWX 3.
Oh well finish the war career first with SH3 methinks :yep:

Make sure your PC can handle SH5 before buying. I bought it and cant play it because my graphics card in my laptop isnt powerful enough. I bought it when i heard about the offline mode. Yes, i can start the game, but graphics lag. So, until i get a decent desktop, SH5 will take up shelf space. :wah::wah::wah: I was disappointed. I thought about returning it and getting SH4, but again, the graphics card isnt good enough. I checked online. :damn:

Yes...I would never usually make reference to 'cracked exes' they are frowned upon here and rightly so.

Thats a shame, but at least you have the game waiting for when you get a new system to fire it up on. Looking at the specs I should be ok, I can run Ship Simulator Extremes and FSX at pretty high rates, so hopefully SH V wil be ok too.
And quite right jimbuna, I never pirate games or use dodgy exes. :yep:

Well, SH V finally arrived and downloaded some mods. I have to say its a really great looking game. Hate the startup thingy as it was driving my firewall crazy before it auto updated, but now in offline mode and its fine. The walking about the sub thing I think, could have been done a bit better (just seems awkward somehow), but thanks to the UI mods thats no longer a problem. So yes I like it, but still sticking with SH III (and SH IV after that) for a good bit yet
