Neal, have you ever accessed Subsim from an android tablet? It's kinda hostile there. First of all, using Firefox Beta just doesn't work. The website gets twisted into some mobile-adapted site with a disclaimer that it is not Google approved, the links don't wwork and you see lesss than one post on a 10" tablet's screen. That seems to br Mozilla's fault because when I switched to Opera everything looked like my PC.
A couple of things are a problem, and they will also be a problem with the <insert many swear words here> the Metro Internet Exploder in Windows 8.
Logging in is a pain. You touch the name field, then type your login name. At the end of that you have to press the done button, which sends both your name and the password you haven't entered yet to the site. Up comes the incorrect info box threatening to lock you out. Then you have to back up and that doesn't work either. The only way that worked for me was to use the login at the top of the page. You still get the error message, but afterwards your name stays up there, you can touch the password field and then finally enter your password for entrance if you have not already exceeded the maximum allowed number of errors.
Then there are the smileys. Still haven't got a workaround for that yet. I can't select them. I suppose I could memorize the text to produce them.
It's been a trial and not fun at all. But it won't be long before we're all forced into Windows 8 and all our computers are reduced to the capabilities of this tablet. No more multiple windows open at a time. No easy cut and paste between applications. A mouse will be as useful as a screen door in a submarine. To select you will have to reach 12" across your deak and smudge up a perfectly clean monitor. Don't even get me started about how frustrating it is to have to type on-screen.
At least using Opera the site looks good and mostly works!
