A Scottsdale man is claiming that a Barnes & Noble bookstore discriminated against him when an employee forced him out of the store because he was a male shopper alone in the children's area.
Omar Amin, 73, said store worker Todd Voris told him that a female shopper had complained about him being in the children's area May 4 in the store at Shea Boulevard and Loop 101 in Scottsdale.
Amin, who was alone at the time, said he was in Barnes & Noble to buy books for his two grandchildren who live in Wisconsin.

The story's since been updated with Barnes & Noble apologizing and saying this should not have happened.
But still...has the world gone freaking pedo crazy? What's it say about us as a society and parents today when the most innocent of things....a grandfather shopping for his grandkids...is seen as a boogeyman?

Seriously? A grandfather can't find books for his kids in this day and age. Paranoia is rising no matter where you go. What would have happened if this was say a 30-40 year old father looking for books for his kids?
Typical of today's society, if only these busy bodies would mind their own business, this type of thing and political correctness really get my goat!!
What he should have done is to present his grandchild and said now explain to them why I was kicked out and unable to buy them a book.

Of course, the entire ugly incident easily could have been avoided had Grandpa simply remembered to put on pants.

I should imagine that course of action will already have been taken by many upon learning of this incident.

In reading the article and other articles, it appears that it was the sitting on the floor in the children's section that caused concern. Every B&N I have been in has chairs.
I can't condone or condemn B&N until both sides are represented.
I would like to learn more from both sides about this incident though. All we are reading is the man's side and of course from his viewpoint he did nothing wrong.

The children's section at B&N has child-sized chairs - not very comfy for a grown adult. I've sat on the floor while at B&N. If you walk into any B&N in America right now, you'll find someone sitting on the floor.
Sitting on the floor while talking on the phone is deemed a pedophilic threat? What if it had been a woman sitting on the floor at B&N in the children's section?

I dislike using the men's room with kids present. You should have to accompany your little troll when they "go" in there.

I think he deserved to be kicked out of the store - for being an annoying phone-nazi. Some prefer to check out books without listening to other people babbling on the phone.

It depends on where you sit or stand to be honest.I am willing to bet that a person sitting on the floor is considered an insurance liability and you are in others way as well pedo or not if you need to sit and look at a book then sit a in place where you can if you are an adult.Grab several books my daughter does this all the time grab some books and look at them pick the one/s that you want.At the same time if a store does not want you sitting on the floor a sign should be posted telling this.
There is too much paranoia and political correctness but to be honest a person sitting on the floor in the middle of a book store is pretty rude.Sit on the floor in front of me and I will tell you to get out of the way.I have seen people obstruct a an isle or even stair way before just to see what people will do they always get disappointed when I show up because I will ask them to get out the way and they will probably because they realize that I am asking nicely but that the cordial behavior will end on my part very quickly if they want to push their luck.
I agree with em2nought as well people are so paranoid about pedos it forces you to be paranoid of being accused of being one honestly I avoid public restrooms at all costs for numerous reasons unless I have no other options you get one of those guys walk up to the next urinal and he is watching you more the himself not my bag.
