Welcome aboard, new members. Very important fact about SUBSIM: you can be a brand new member but you are just as important and worthy of respect as a 12 year vet. We love you. And it's your turn to clean the head.

I request permission to come aboard . I have been into submarine simulators since SH 1 back in '96, when we had to make boot-up disks so our DOS pc could manage the resources needed. Since then I have acquired many submarine simulators. I have been away from sub sims for a bit but am back now with SH5.

I Technically joined may 31 but June is close enough.

I found this site after looking for information on how to do some things in SH5 which i had just bought. (Its my first Sub Sim) and was immensely enjoying the game but after seeing what everyone had done on this site (i.e. MODs) I was compelled to join as it increased the immersion tenfold and made the game even more fun with the added challenge and realism.

Thank you everyone for all you have done in the name of Simulation Gaming.

Well I'm new here as well. Not new to Subsims, been playing them since Silent Service on my NES, but recently wondered how much of a community and how many mods (if any) were out for what I always thought was considered a niche market

Imagine my surprise when I found this place lol. I routinely play Silent Hunter 3 and 4. Still trying to wrap my head around SH5, just so much different then what I'm used too. But still love it.

Nothing better then flanking a convoy putting myself in their path, going silent, firing off the forward torpedo's and diving deep to evade as they pass over head. lol

Ok, New recruit. I must have been aware of this forum since my first Silent Hunter X runs, because I love to dig forums for sim mods and my usual username is taken, so I had to renew my subscription with a working email.

So, this is a reentry I guess, trying to patch and make playable the SH V purchased last week.

TY to all the community who made friendly and easy to try to put together a fine and joyful experience in the last installment of my favourite series.

With the DL limits it seems that I'll have to wait more than a couple of days to achieve smoething useful, but knowing the patience, work and love the community put in his developments I suppose that the wait will be worthy.

Good hunting.

You will not go far wrong within this game with help and support from all who can help,
I have not long been a member myself and have had quite a bit of help from certain factions within the game and myself personnaly thing there is not many games out there who can surpace the work gone into or been going into of SH5 its Top of the Shop.

Hello everyone. I've recently decided to join this forum and try to meet and discuss sub related topics with people of similar interests. I have a great interest in nuclear subs, (both SSN's and SSBN's) but I also enjoy the older World War 2 era diesel subs as well. Sub Command and Silent Hunter III are probably my favorite recent sub sims. As a separate hobby, I also enjoy spaceflight and astronomy related subjects. Anyway, I'm happy to have joined and glad to meet all of you!

Welcome to Subsim Codz. :salute:

Hi guys, new member here!

Found your community while looking for help after recently downloading SH4 and UBM. Got to say your site is a very useful resource for help/guidance in this game, and has a great selection of downloads/mods.

Well done to all who have either put together or contributed to this great site.

I'm disappointed by the new (year-old) download limits...I understand it, but I'm disappointed. Admittedly, it's been a while since I was a regular, but even when I'm around I don't post unless I feel I've something to add to the discussion (which generally happens if I know more about a subject than the other people in a thread, an uncommon occurrence as indicated by my rather anemic .07 posts per day).

Still, it's a shame that it came to this; I didn't realize this site was in such dire straits. It's always been the best gaming community that I've ever run across, and to see it shut down for lack of funding would be a tragedy. I'll see if I can't do my part there.

I always have been very interested in WW2, so thats why i like any WW2 sim, so i play (try) silent hunter 5 and also IL-2, well i try to cause i kinda suck in the game ^^, but i geuss practice makes me better + even if i suck i always have the need to play 100% realism. i also play battlefield 3 company of heroes and shogun 2: total war,

and i also wanna thank the modders for their time for fixing silent hunter 5, cause i knew silent hunter 3 was more realistic but im a graphic whore so ^^ silent hunter 5 looks better now :)

Thanks and have fun :salute:

I originally got into the series with the release of SHIII and some what enjoyed the game and wished it was better. When SHIV was released I figured they improved the game, but was disappointed. I stayed away until I saw SHIII on steam for $12.00 and was bored but I did enjoy playing the game despite it's faults. Had no idea about GWX, LSH, NYGM, or any of the vast amounts of MODS. I have had the SHIII for a month and tried LSH and GWX and just downloading NYGM. My thanks and congradulations to all the modders who have taken a slighty ok game and made it an awesome game. According to steam I have played SHIII about 120 hours. My last patrol I planned on getting to my patrol grid and saving next thing I know it's 3am. I wish I would have found this site a long, long time ago.

Hey guys,

Firstly, thank you to all the fantastic mod makers. I recently bought SH3 off steam after remembering happy memories with Command Aces of the Deep and I'm stunned by the amount of work that went into GHX and all of the other fantastic mods.

Secondly,I've now fully caught the bug and trying to fully mod SH5 and I admit I'm posting here to try and increase my download limit on Subsim. This isn't a rant post (!) and I fully understand the reasons why and I would donate something if I had the money (sorry, bit broke atm).
Has anybody considered a Dropbox style system, where we add our names to a list to share a central folder containing all the mods for SH3-5?

Thanks

Thanks guys, the welcome is much appreciated.

Not that I want to come across as impatient but does the download queue operate on a 24 hour countdown or is it tied to a calendar?

I made the mistake of firing up SH5 and I'm caught between SH3 moded goodness and unmoded SH5 and its stunning graphics...

It's tied to your post count. The more you post the more you can download.

At what ratio?

Also isn't that a bit of a Catch-22? I can't say anything of substance until I play the game but I don't want to play the game without the mods I can't download

In that case it will take you a little while longer to get the mods your after.

You could PM Neal and ask him to open up the pipe a little more but I'm not sre if that can be done on an individual basis.

If it can then I would have thought a great many more would want similar treatment.

Either way, good luck.

Good point. The idea is to get people to participate in the forums. We have 70,000 members, and most of them join just to download goodies and never even introduce themselves. I don't know what the answers are, but options have been discussed. I understand there was one suggestion that Subsim charge a nominal fee for the service.

Laconic
06-24-12, 12:27 PM
Actually, I've got a suggestion in that regard too. I don't know how easy or even possible it would be in terms of coding, but it seems to me that a lot of mods are very small, as in 1MB or less. I know that there are a lot of graphical and sound mods that can be very large, and those must hurt coming down the pipe. Do the small downloads add up to that much bandwidth? Is there any way to tell?

My suggestion would be to remove limits on small mods, say those less than 1MB or 500kb, and keep them for anything over; that, or maybe limit accounts on actual bandwidth (give everyone maybe 25MB a day...they can download one big mod at over 25MB, or a bunch of little ones that add up to it). There's a lot of scripts or edited text files out there, a lot of which I combine by hand once I get them and can see the changes from vanilla versions to make my own personal brand of mod soup.

Jimbuna
06-24-12, 12:35 PM
Yes Neal knows precisely what bandwidth is being downloaded, hence the restrictions.

You are correct about the smaller size of some mods but with so many members here the little ones soon add up to larger amounts.

Sometimes it's beneficial to look up the mod your after in the downloads section and make contact with the mod creator via PM because (and it is certainly the case with my mods and GWX) the creator may have a separate file storage capability.

Hello All,

I am new to the forum as I have returned to the Harpoon series after a decade long hiatus. I have been playing Naval War: Arctic Circle which is ok (happy there is a new game out in this genre) but I recalled Harpoon being more in depth and to my liking. The forum has been invaluable in regrounding myself as there are so many versions of the game.

Well, I've actually been a member here for a while, but this is my first post on the site. However, I've absolutely loved the subsim forums not only for all the information on the Silent Hunter series, but for the wealth of information on all things related to the history of U-boats as well! Hats off to the hardcore modders on here too. I don't have a clue how some of you guys can figure out how to polish up these games so well, but it never fails to impress. It's the reason I bought SH5 after all; even though it was a pretty terrible release in its vanilla state, I knew it was only a matter of time before the modding community would be bringing it up to the same level of immersion and enjoyment that I've received from SH3 and SH4 for so many years. So, to wrap it up, just wanted to make a quick post since I've never done so before and give a shout out to everyone who exchanges so much helpful information and insight on the forum boards here. I'm spanish,34 years old, and my favorite sub sim thus far has been SH3 (with the proper seawolves megapack, of course ;)). From being a pretty good looking but "meh" simulation, mods turned it into the best WW2 ETO subsim ever.

As I said in the thread I opened...modders on this website should get paid by ubisoft. And I really mean it ;).

not really a new member, but I don't post that much so I'd drop by to say hello! :).

All the best
RAM

Greetings to you both http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/thumbsup.gif

I am Pairado and i live in the Netherlands in the province of Gelderland. I am almost 17 and i like playing War games like Shogun 2.

I play also stealth games like Splinter cell, Assassins creed and i did play sniper games ( was good )
in assassins creed brotherhood i have 3 world records ( 7 months after release i think )

( I also like history buytheway )
anyway :shucks:

but becose i love stealth an war and history i did go look on the internet and i found silent hunter 5.

I realy like the idea of an massive stealth war. So i have buy it on Bol.com and i install it blablabla ^^ and i did go to play it.

I am not good at simulation so i did it verry bad and it is hard to play simulation if it is your first time. But i stay and i learn more about MODS and stuff like that.

I had try to do it myself but i could not foud the Jonesoft site so i found an old program of genetic mod enabler myself an later i heard that it stood on this great forum so i member myself.

At this moment i try to master the art of Modding but it stays hard.

:D if someone can learn me more about forums or interface tell me, I will look for it myself as well ;)

I hop that i give you an little idea about me and i hope i get better :)

Thank you all and great dive,:arrgh!:
