Where is Area J ?

I was on the bridge when my radio operator said there was a new message for me. I quickly went into the boat where I was handed this message. I walked over to the map and the navigator looked up at me questioningly. I begin to flip through the charts looking for Areas A-J. I then went to my bunk for my GWX Manual and didn't find it there. So now I'm on the radio, my hydrophone and radio operators are quietly laughing, hearing me asking you where is "Area J" ?

It would seem that, in many cases, "immersion" equals "overwhelmed by minutiae". I've not been in the military at all, but commanding public safety scenes has been good training for filtering out extraneous information, at least for me.

Thanks. I spent about 30 minutes looking at the almost 300 hits when I searched for "area" "radio" and "gwx"

I was going to use the channel to return home thinking this early in the war the ASW and mines shouldn't be that bad. Now I'm thinking like the band Supertramp, Take the long way home.

I refer you to today's date, the second day of my current patrol. I further refer you to my current location, as we are in our fourth year of this conflict and I am following orders by patrolling in the middle of the English Channel.
