Ok ok ok...so I know this is probably beating a dead horse. But I've come to the "Silent Hunter" party quite late. I discovered the SH games a few months ago when they were all on sale at gamersgate.com. I fell in love with SH4 and played the heck out of it (and still am, although I can't seem to make it into 1943 without experiencing a strong desire to restart my career for some reason).
So then I got into u-boats. And I must add my agreement to the general consensus...after a week or so of trying to play SH5 (even modded), I'm right back to SH3 with GWX. The amount of work that has gone into this game (read: mod GWX) is incredible. I wish there was some other way to attempt to recognize all the work that has gone into the countless mods that have made this "mod" into a full fledged experience.
Long story short: Thanks. Between the excellent community support (this forum rocks) and the stellar mods that are out there, SH3 (and SH4 too) are games that will never leave my hard drive.
