Sound options ?

Hello everyone,

I'm back at SH3 after years, re-installed, modded and everything works great. Problem i have and i'd like your input is about the sound settings.
The engine sound is way too high and covers up most of my crew's responses, any idea which exact setting in the sound settings i have to change ? Cause I have tried reducing the FX setting at start but didn't help a lot.

I'd appreciate any input on this.

Welcome back,
Make sure your sound card is in stereo not "surround"
If its still not right its the sound mod you are using.
By chance are you using the "FM interior mod"? If so, go into
the "FM_newInterior/ data" folder and delete the sound folder and try it.

Thanks for your reply, but unfortunately I'm not using any sound mods at the moment (I have 2 SH3 installations, one stock patched to v1.4 and one for GWX).
The sound annoyance is with my stock SH3 :hmmm:

I do use some interior texture mods but not any sound mods.. any ideas ?

From the game's options, which one lowers the engine sound ? Is it the "FX" one ?

Yes I believe u r correct 'bout the fx dail. That will lower all sound efx tho.
The "FM interior" mod is an command/ engine room and bunks, with a bunch of other goodies! But it has a sound folder in it as well. If your not using it you will then have to adjust the engine volume manually. It's pretty easy 2 do.
you will need a program that can edit "wav" files such as "audacity" (which is free btw). Go to C(if thats where ya put it)/sh3/data/ sound there you will find Submarine_diesel_exterior and Submarine_diesel_underwater. either of those individual files u can change the volume to your liking using the wav editor.
b4 i forget you might have to change the attributes to the sh3 main folder first. RH click the sh3 folder and go 2 the general tab and uncheck the "read only" box, that will allow you to manually edit the contents. let me know how ya make out! I changed out both of those files and changed up the volumes as well.

If you're REALLY ambitious, you can download Silent 3ditor and open up "SH3.sdl" in the "Sounds" folder of SH3. Each sound is given a volume, and you can modify how loudly they will play. Personally I made the engines louder...
