I like the whiskey swig at 0:57. :Kaleun_Cheers:

My great uncle was on the USS Minneapolis in Subic Bay,Philippines they heard an announcement over the PA and then some officer passed out bottles beer and bottles of liquor and told the sailors that the war was over after that everyone celebrated all night and pretty much for the next day or so.I reckon some of the luckier sailors just happened to have shore leave that day.

My grandfather was in Germany at the same time but it was pretty much the same reaction.

Some great footage there. I can only ask my grandmother what she was doing on that day but since she was young at the time I doubt she'll remember exactly what she was doing when Japan surrendered, and I have no idea what people in Melbourne Australia would have been doing on the day

Cool video August. Thanks for sharing. These images are about all I can find but I do recall seeing some footage of people dancing in the streets in Sydney after the declaration of peace: http://www.pictureaustralia.org/apps/pictureaustralia?action=PASearch&mode=subject&complete1=true&attribute1=subject&term1=World+War%2C+1939-1945+--+Armistices+V-J+Day%2C+1945+--+Australia
