For the first time since i played stock game, now playing FOTRS I was ordered to recom Osaka did that no problem ,then turned West to Kobe, 1st ship in my scope as an Ise BB so you lock and laod but how do you fire a torpedo were the depth is around 25m your torpedo settings is set to 28+m (Iknow if you fire you will still hit her) but surely if you didn't re-adjust your depth your torpedo would run into the seabed?.
One more thing I would like to ask entering the bay into Osaka my game loks up for some reason twice this has happened Ihad to reduce my speed to 1/3rd and tc no mor than 128-256 or the lag gets very heavy I do have the 4 Gig patch but until i clear the entrance into the inlet it major lag then I was re-ordered to re do the mission and got a load of merchants going in circles doing nowt am wondering if this might do something with the lag? anyone else encountered this please help

Going into to do those recon jobs is a pain to begin with. I just ignore them, and go sink stuff. Can't remember if FOTRS has them or not, but TMO has Jap minefields, and antisub nets, and after being blown to bits by a mine once, and then stuck in the antisub net at Rabaul once and sunk by over-zealous DDs, I decided to stop trying to complete those missions, and just do what subs do best! Sink the enemy ships!

Andy are you running auto targeting? If so try this do not lock onto the target and the torpedo running depth will stay at what ever you set it at.
Just aim at the part of the ship you want to hit.
What I do is set up my torpedoes before I get to a combat zone. I set them to contact, fast and 15 feet. 15 feet will sink almost any merchant or large war ship. Most of the time I have time to reset them if needed but if I don't 15 feet is a good choice. You need to reset all this after you load a save.
As to you lag problem. 128 to 256 seems a little high when you're in a combat zone let alone a harbor, I seldom go over 32X maybe 64 in the right circumstances.
At that high TC any large convoy or even several airplanes will slow down everything but the strongest machines in a harbor.

Actually, if you are (or can get) close enough, you can lock onto the target, then unlock. The arrow should remain visible. Then, you can set the torp depth for whatever you desire and fire away.

I have not seen any subnet yet (apart from the 1 that's protecting the fuso outside the harbour)but I know when to launch a fish at it and any ship in that vicinity my gripe is that am in shallow waters were I have around 5m below my keel so basically am i around 21m of depth I cleared the subnets I have the perfect shot lock on torps are set to 30m if I fire them surely they sould slam into the seabed so I do ischange the depth of my torpedo's to around 10m to 5m or under (call it cheating or whatever) tops don't run straight and norrow sometimes. But if you do it by default and your torpedo is set to 30m would it not just slam into the seabed and explode?

On the TDC there is a torpedo settings tab. In auto targeting mode when you press "L" to lock on a target, the torpedo depth sets to a distance the sim determines is proper. However, after that I've just changed it to whatever depth I want (without unlocking). If you unlock and relock, the sim will again set the depth.
I've also seen that when the sim sets a depth, if I switch tubes, the torpedo depth on the new tube has not been changed from either the default (very shallow) or from what I had set before locking on.

But if you do it by default and your torpedo is set to 30m would it not just slam into the seabed and explode? You should be safe, at least to the depth of the target's keel. You're torpedo has no more of a chance of hitting the seabed than the bottom of the target vessel. That is, barring any land obstruction that the target vessel would also have to maneuver around.

Regarding the lag, sometimes the 4Gb patch doesn't help or work. There is a utility out there called "large address array" that may fix it. Don't have a link, but you find it with a Google or Bing search.
