I prefer to use D-Fend Reloaded to run my old DOS games. So easy to setup and less fiddly than just plain DOS Box. Here is a link
http://dfendreloaded.sourceforge.net/Download.html
As for what games to run on it, Microprose did a great many that I have including Subwar 2050. Takes a bit of playing around with the settings to get it to run though.
What else......F117A (Microprose again), was a great game

I remember countless fun hours with SWOTL, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe! Awesome combat flight sim for its time, with lots of different WWII planes.
Of course, also, AOD!

Yep, SWOTL was another great game, well worth playing from the same dev who later on would give us X-Wing & TiE Fighter.
Another I noticed that I have is Red Baron. A good WWI flight sim, although you can get the full collection on GOG too, http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/red_baron_pack

Almost everything you could ever want for dosbox is here (search by games/genre):
http://www.abandonia.com/
Seriously. I spent about an hour the other night finding ancient games from my younger days, and there's so much stuff there its just crazy. Has Bullfrog and all the old Microprose sims (B17! F117!), Cannon Fodder 2, Desert Strike & Jungle Strike, all the classic sub sims (including red storm rising)... the list goes on.
Go nuts!

Ehh might want to rethink posting that, the legality regarding abandonware sites is dubious. :-?
Also, X-COM!

Lol yes I've been browsing a bit, I remember playing Das Boot (which sucked a lot!) and Silent Service II, which was awesome!

Silent Service II was awesome... but I remember playing the NES port of the original!
That game was brutal- if you ever got hit by a single depth charge, you were done.

As far as I'm aware that site is perfectly legitimate. It's been around for years and where a game is still being sold or copyright retained, a link is provided to the paid-for product on GOG.com or similar sites. I can't find anything to confirm it on the site, but I think that one's unlikely to get anyone in trouble - though if that's not the case I'll of course wipe the URL.

Two of the best intro's ever made and back when I thought Activision were cool.

Red Baron, and the Aces series from Dynamix set the standard for flightsims to come.

What other DOS games?
Elite Plus (a true classic)
Frontier Elite II (my favourite game ever )
GLFFE (a re-make of Elite 3 with higher res but still the retro look)
Sid Meier's Colonization (although I preferred the Amiga version)
A10 (a nice wee flight sim)
Lost Patrol (Hard as nails, can you get your guys home?)
Syndicate (I will switch on my persuade-a-tron to make you play it :D)
UFO Enemy Unknown (or UFO Defence as it was known in the US)
TFX (a good flight sim, a bit like EF2000)
Dune II (The game that kicked off the RTS genre)
Blood Net (an interesting story)
Archimedean Dynasty (Aquanox was the sequel to this, some say the original game is better)
Jagged Alliance 1 & 2 (these are just great games)
Birds Of Prey (an old but good flight sim from EA)
Dogfight (Microprose strike again, pitch a Fokker Tri-plane against a modern jet?)
System Shock 1 and (especially) 2, if you can find them :shifty:
Tachyon (a wonderful space sim)
There, that lot should keep you busy
