View Full Version : SH3 Commander Question
I never tried this but is it possible to connect a running SH3 Cmdr that's now working with GWX to a new and different Mega Mod install of SH3? I'd like to continue the campaign I'm currently running now. I'm planning on saving the whole SH3 campaign from My Documents and then putting it back in . Is there anything else to do? I haven't tried any of this in a couple of years and have forgotten a lot of what needs to be done, all from being burnt out with SH3. It's fuunny tho, I could do all this in my sleep when I was in SH3 hot and heavy.
My SH3 install is on a second HDD and I'm going to remove the exe shortcut from my desktop and shut it down. Unintal the mods and move the mod folder to the new install, along with JSGME.
I don't have the Multi SH3 installed yet. Tried once and could never get it to work properly. But... I'm going to try again.
I guess old age and CRS really screws the pooch now. Makes me feel like a newbie all over again. LOL
Thanks guys.

I'm not sure. What I did is copy Commander and create a new folder and desktop icon. One is SH3 Commander and the other is GWX Commander. I'm comfortable with having separate installations for each version of SH3.
A quick look at the User Guide confirms that this was Jaesen's thinking as well:
To ensure maximum flexibility and compatibility it is recommended that you have a dedicated installation of SH3 Commander for each installation of Silent Hunter III.
Thanks Steve. That's what I'm trying to do right now. Is there anything else that has to be saved and moved besides the info in the My Documents/sh3 folder? Mods will be transfered too.
I renamed the one for GWX to SH3 Commander GWX. I saved the career in the sh3 folder and pasted it into the new sh3 folder in My Documents for the new install of SilentHunterIII. The original is tucked away in the UBI folder for my SH3 GWX install.

I don't think so, but it's been awhile. As I recall I made the transferred one into the new career. MultiSH3 takes care of the rest. You have to start with a clean unmodded stock game for it to all work, I think.
Yep, this is a clean stock and unmodded SH3. Going to do an expansion mod soon in the 2nd copy of of SH3 I made.
I'm doing all this because I couldn't get any deckgun ammo. Tried and tried while in base to fix it but nothing worked. Not even what
Raptor posted on changing the 2 values in /SilentHunterIII/data/Cfg/Basic.cfg/.
I tried every way I could think of to put my old GWX campaign back in SH3/GWX but it didn't work. With that I've restarted all over again. It's a pain going thru all the Naval Academy again but that's the way it goes I guess.

Did you click on the shell icon while at the gun ?
Always starts at 0 until you click the shell
bigboywooly is correct. You must order the deck gun crew to load the first shell. I usually do this and few other housekeeping tasks like instructions to both deck and flak gunners while in port before leaving.
Issue the "man the deck gun" command
Go to the deck gun (F10)
Click on the shell to load it
When the bar is full, the gun is loaded
Dismiss the gun crew ("Watch crew on deck")
Now the gun will fire whenever you want it to.
Flak guns do not have this problem. They load themselves automatically. However, if you wish to change to armor piercing rounds, you'll need to go through the same procedure with the manned flak guns (F11) to do so.
It was showing no shells to load. If it happens again i'll do as you guys said. Thanks.
Raptor, tell me how to increace the ammo count. Or is it 140 all the time with GWX 3.0 for HE rounds? I tried in the other thread in the SHIII Desaigners Forum. Here.... http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=193321 I'm missing something the way you said. Is there an extra something else that Fubar did. Thanks again.

Hmmmm odd as should have just one shell icon with 0 beneath it
Jimbuna has an extra ammo mod for GWX in one of his mod stores - mediafire or gamefront :oops:
Link in his sig
:salute:
When you order the deck gun manned and go to the station (F10), this is what you see; the HE shell above the loading bar appears greyed out and the bar shows a zero at each end.

After you click on the HE shell, it will change to full color, the left-most zero turns to a white "1", the total number of shells available appears in grey (250 in GWX) at the right end of the loading bar, and the bar will quickly fill with white as the first shell is loaded (remember, the deck gun must be manned for this to work). Once the gun is fully loaded and ready for action, the numbers at each end of the bar will be white. You can then safely return the watch crew to their stations.

To change your ammo loadout......
Using the Additional Ammo Mod for GWX as an example (250 deck gun rounds 10.5 and/or 8.8cm...and bear in mind only HE rounds are included with GWX, but you can add them back in whatever amounts you want):
http://www.gamefront.com/files/12858...tional_Ammo_7z (http://www.gamefront.com/files/12858187/GWX3_0_Additional_Ammo_7z)
OR change it yourself.
There are TWO sets of values you must change in /SilentHunterIII/data/Cfg/Basic.cfg/
make these values anything you want; 250 and 3000 are the GWX defaults
Located after [Torpedo_Type10] and before [Color_0]
[SUBMARINE_AMMOLIMITS1] ;105mm
MaxAmmoPerSlot=250
[SUBMARINE_AMMOLIMITS2] ;88mm
MaxAmmoPerSlot=250
[SUBMARINE_AMMOLIMITS3] ;37mm
MaxAmmoPerSlot=3000
[SUBMARINE_AMMOLIMITS4] ;20mm
;MaxAmmoPerSlot=3000
MaxAmmoPerSlot=3000
Located further down, after [Conning_Type12] almost at the end of the file
[AMMO_TYPE0];10.5cm SK C/32
Idx=0
Year=1939
Month=1
;AP=40 <= these are the stock SH3 default values
;HE=160
;SS=20
AP=0 <= these are the default values in GWX
HE=250
SS=0
Renown=0
[AMMO_TYPE1];8.8cm SK C/35
Idx=1
Year=1939
Month=1
;AP=40 <= these are the stock SH3 default values
;HE=160
;SS=40
AP=0 <= these are the default values in GWX
HE=250
SS=0
Renown=0
[AMMO_TYPE2] thru [AMMO_TYPE10] are for the AA guns. Change values if you wish. GWX default is 3000.
Finally I have 250 HE shells. My thanks to you guys. BTW... I only just saw the photos now.
Raptor, are you saying I can have 100 AP shells and 150 HE shells... as long as the total is 250. Or can I go higher if the [SUBMARINE_AMMOLIMITS for the 105mm and 88mm MaxAmmoPerSlot=250] is set higher than 250? Lets say a total of 300 and then have 200 HE and 100 AP.
BBW, I can't even get on the Gamefront/MediaFiles site, let alone download anything from there. :damn:
I suppose you could have as many shells as you want as long as the two files total to the same amounts.
Just remember that real u-boats could rarely carry more than 100 cannon rounds total. There was only a limited amount of room under the control room floor for those big shells (3.4 inches in diameter for the 88mm or 4.2 inches for the 105mm).
Deck guns got very little use after 1940 and then only in far-away places where most ships were sailing solo and warships were scarce. That's why they were removed from most u-boats with the exception of the big IXD2's in 1942. The Atlantic and Med boats needed that space for extra flak gun ammo as the war progressed.
Thanks Raptor, good info. I just want the extra for those times I run out of torpedos after getting rid of those pesky DDs. Last campaign I ran I had 3 ships sitting dead in the water and nothing to put them under. I know it's bad as far as realism goes, but these days I need something to put em down. It's an old age crisis thing I guess. ;) LOL

I am asking this question here , in order to avoid making a new thread.
I am using the realistic crew transfers in SH3 Commander.
So far I had no problem but now every time a new sailor (not officer) is transferred in , the game crashes!
Ideas?

No ideas at all. I've never had that problem, and I don't remember hearing of it either.

To be more specific : The game crashes when the new sailor goes to a battle station ie : deck gun, flak gun ,repair
As long as he is in his quarters everything runs fine.
Next mission deselect realistic crew transfers. Run that mission and try realistic crew transfers again. See if tht makes a difference.

Thank you.
I tried that , but the problem still remains.
It looks like I am up to reinstalling but I 'd rather continue without the realistic crew transfer for a while.
