This story is in my B-17 Flying Fortress book. But the mission he was awarded the MOH for, said he and the co-pilot were both wounded, and the flight engineer though wounded himself, would keep the plane flying level, when both the pilot and co-pilot would lapse into unconsciuosness, and kept them heading in the direction of New Guinea.

When they approached the field, they landed with the wind because didn't check for landing instructions for fear of the pilot and co-pilot losing consciousness. This upset the tailgunner, who stormed into the control tower and demanded to know why the windsock was pointing in the wrong direction. The ground staff assured him that someone would go out and correct it, rather than annoy him further.
