View Full Version : Field of View Issues with 16:9 and 16:10 resolutions

I've noticed that when using resolutions other than 4:3, I get a different result (than the correct one) when using the sextant for celestial fixes. At one position, 16:9, 16:10, and 4:3 gave me 50, 52, and 54 degrees respectively against Polaris.

The only reason I can imagine for this is an incorrect field of view set for the 16:9, 16:10 resolutions, which would account for the star map being skewed compared to the sextant tool, which as part of the UI would not be affected by the FOV.

Now this got me worried, since if the vertical FOV is wrong, that means any range checks I'm making are just as wrong, since mast height will appear smaller than it should. This makes sense, since so far I've been having to noticeably overestimate mast heights just to get the correct range (I thought the figures were wrong, or I was just doing it wrong).

Does anyone know if it's possible to change the horizontal and vertical FOV of the game, or is there another fix? Is this a known issue?

EDIT: On second thought, given the low overall skew and the relatively small screen size of ships being ranged checked, it's likely not significantly impacting range measurements. That part is probably just me ;-). But the celestial fixes are very annoying.
