Changing game options

Hello --

I am playing my first mission, and I noticed that I am having a relatively easy time hitting the enemy ships. I have saved the game several times during the course of the mission.

Curious about this, I went to the game options screen, and I noticed the realism setting was very low. I modified the settings to get a higher rating.

My question is the following: Do the changes that I made automatically go into effect with the current mission, or do I need to start over in order for them to go into effect?

If you are playing a single mission or patrol you will need to start over.

If you are in career mode you need to set the options in the office before you start a patrol. The options are set using to radio on the bookcase on the left side of the screen.
