I've heard here and there that ubisoft is done with Silent Hunter and if they did release a new one, it would be a console game. What if. They did a console SH where you can walk through the sub and give orders that way or use a quick menu like Skyrim's or EndWar's to give orders to different compartments. So you could go anywhere in the sub, with all the controls on a quick menu or you can give orders seperately to the different crewmembers. Maybe with voice command? Idk. I'm just ranting now. I think this is a cool idea.

Won't happen. The best you can hope for is a Silent Hunter with controls more like that of Star Fox.

That's too bad. I wish naval sims were more popular. Everything is shifting to mmo or another repeat of same gameplay. Naval Sims are really revolutionary I think. They reward the player with action, but, you have to use the ol noggin to think about your tactics. CoD will always be the same. Ghost Recon will be the same. GTA will be the same. But I think there is lots of room for the subsim and naval sim to grow. I hope "ubisoft" comes to their senses about silent hunter. They ruined flight sims with HAWX I think. Too arcade. They need to at least throw around an idea for SH6.

Who ruined flightsims? DCS with A-10 and Blackshark? 777 studios with Rise of Flight? The New Strike Fighters 2 in the North Atlantic game? And say whay you want about Ubi and Cliffs of Dover (I can and I have..) but simwise that title makes the last three Silent Hunter games positively lacking. And that's just the last couple of years.

I've never heard of HAWX. What is it? Something for the X-box? Just because UBI apparently released a bad arcade flightsim doesn't mean that the genre is dead. I doubt HAWX even registered on most flight simmers consciousness.

Personally speaking, rather than chucking in some voice controlled gimmick, I would prefer for any future subsim become a full on study sim. I mean it, the whole shebang. If they have to pay more to cover costs then so be it. I'll pay a good whack for a quality title but not very much for something gimmicky.

HAWX is an xbox360/ps3/pc/ios arcade flight sim. You get hundreds of missles and bombs to take out your targets. I only got it because I like airplanes. There is a somewhat better sequel.

I admit that I love Ubisoft's games. Just I think they fell flat with HAWX and naval sims.

The flight genre isn't dead. It just has a dent named HAWX.

Who cares about HAWX? That doesnt even exist in the flight SIMMERS universe, so stop talking about flight sim and HAWX in one sentence please, ok?! Thats blasphemic, really.

To even think about the word "sim" while talking about HAWX should be punished.

An FS9, FSX, Jane´s F/A-18, Apache Longbow 2 and DCS A-10 SIMMER.

Case closed! :D

Oh and regarding your idea. I hope this will never be. Consoles and simulations? No, just no. Or wait: Ubisoft and simulations? No, just no!

Lets just hope that someday, some cool studio will make a good and real subsim... not that crap ubi presented to us in the past years - only playable because of the huge effort from awesome guys here at subsim...

I kinda would like a console subsim. Naval Assault: The Killing Tide was sad. I thought of throwing my tv out the window.

My laptop's graphics card isn't powerful enough to play many subsims. I can't run sh4 or 5. A console release might not be too bad. As long as they stick to realism and come up with a good way to command, I think it would be great.

HAWX should never be in the same thought as "sim" Got it.

Several of the starting Simulators were on consoles so you're argument is invalid.

As for HAWX, it fits into the Action category that Ace Combat, and that WW-II game fit into.

Well, maybe they started like that. But the games back than - where they really "simulators"? Its not that easy to define I think. At least to me, they were not.

And today, there are no simulations on consoles, right? At least I dont know any. Looks like my argument is not so invalid after all...

And it's 360 counter part:

Probably or or two out there that I don't know about. Truth be told consoles could handle simulators, it's just everyone wants to make their games "Easy".

America's Army is a simulator...... :D Simulations are just too good for consoles I guess.

Just because no one has made a proper 'sim-sim' on a console doesn't mean there won't ever be one. I can see it happening in the next few years as the 'console generation' get older and demand more involving titles, and the technology evolves further.

As for arcade flight games, I wonder how many people here, or over on SimHQ, say, got their first fix of digital aerial combat in an arcade playing Afterburner in that shoogly booth it had...I know I did...:)

I don't know about HAWX. Like I said, it doesn't look like something that would trouble the current crop of desktop fighter jocks, but I think if some kid sitting at home gets a taste, wants to go further, and has a world of grognard goodness open up for him, so much the better.
