Just wondering if anyone has ever tried to make enemy shore installations vulnerable to deck gun fire? Subs bombarded shore targets during the war, definitely something missing from the sim.Can do it, Ive done it and it detectsd the impact shows a fireball, makes a noise but the building doesnt show damage or catch fire.Anyone ever tried to remedy this? Sure itd be a lot of work but it would be nice to be able to shell ports and leave the buildings etc on fire, earn renown perhaps.
Someone did do this awhile ago. They made some buildings that would take damage and allow renoun for their destruction. It might have been Onelifecrisis. I guess they made ships that appeared as land objects? Nobody really picked up the idea, though.
I thought it was a good idea. It would be nice to have destructable shore batteries and installations. I mean, if you have to fight them, it is only fair to have a decent chance to take them out.

Japanese submarines were fond of this tactic. The US west coast was bombarded a few times. Notably the oil installations at Ellwood, California.

Damage inflicted on shore targets was usually negligible though. Submarines are a poor gunnery platform. The risk to the submarine was greater, especially if the pressure hull got hit in return.

Well I don't know if anyone has ever tried it but today I was entering a jap harbor and came under shore fire, ( I had the USS Montana class BB ) So I aimed the 14 inch triples at the installation and quickly found out that they can't be destroyed in vanilla.
