Hello everyone! Its been a while since I posted on this forum! Amazing to see how far SH5 has progressed in the last couple of years!

Just a quick query in case anyone else has seen this;

Got to re-installing SH5 last night and noticed something weird - at certain times there will be horizontal lines across the sky, going all the way up. Now It looks just like a problem I had on FSX and what I did to resolve the issue was turn on the anisotropic filtering - has anyone seen this behaviour?

Many thanks,
Sev

Indeed I did - It auto updates if I'm not correct so should be fully 1.2

Still worth a check - look top right in the main game menu:up:

Update - I've tried several servings changes, no difference. It's strange in that it seems more prevalent at night.

Also the shadows just don't seem quite right, they flicker around the edges and just seem a little strange.

It seems obvious there is some kind of graphics anomaly - I have an ATI radeon 6790 gfx card - that's not proven to have and sh5 issues does it? I could try a driver reinstall but interestingly, no other games have these problems.

Advice appreciated,
Sev.

check your gfx card it could be dirty and overheating or it could just be getting ready to fail on you

it definately sounds like its card related and the card can or should handle the game so im thinking card is dying on you if its not overheating

Are the lines straight (mine are not)? I have a similar problem with both SHIV and SH5. I'd call it posterization because, for me, the 'streaks' seem to ebb and flow with the gradual change in lighting from horizon to straight up.

I haven't noticed any shadow problems. I myself am running an ATI 6970.

I can't seem to get rid of it. It's makes the game annoying, but is still playable (thanks to the amazing mods/modders out there)

Bursar; yes sounds like you have the same issue as me....must be something to do with this card.

Webster - I've done a full stress test on the card itself monitoring heats and ran diagnostic software on it - card itself isn't faulty, so I'm suspecting some driver anomaly - might try an earlier driver.

ok well thats good news then

thats why im not a big ATI fan, the drivers can take forever sometimes and if there is a bad one you might have to wait 6 months for a fix.

if you have the latest driver then try going back to the previous driver before the one you have now and see if that helps, beyond that you may need to reduce your settings

Don't know if you have the latest ATI Drivers but I do know this...

I updated to the latest and suffered problems while working in 3D Max.
I uninstalled and went back to the older version and the problem is gone.
I had to use ATIman to do the uninstall.

Hmm - I've gone to the latest version and no joy - I'm trying to take a screen shot but cant figure out how, or where theyre saved to. Anyone know?

Also, are there any mods that change the sky effects at-all? Maybe one of those will help me? .....

severniae, To take a screen shot for the default keyboard, just press CTRL+F11. If you're using Church's keyboard press the PrtScrn button on your keyboard.

The first place to look for your screen shots already taken is in your main SH5 folder. They will be red colored .jpg files.

As to the sky banding (lines in the sky) problem you might try this;

SteelViking's_Sky_Banding_Mod

GOOGLE it or try our forum's download section under "SteelViking".

Ahh - I did a few searches and Sky banding is exactly the problem I seem to have, however quite severe. I've tested on other games and it just seems to be SH5 unfortunately :wah:

Shall try the mod and anything else I can find to help sort the darn thing out!

Thanks

Hi guys

I use SteelVikings Sky Banding Mod. Maybe it could help you too.

I indeed now have tried the mod. And unfortunately have the same problem!

I've started to notise that its not just the sky, but the clouds, sun and sunrays that do it too.

Also the edges of the shadow are doing something I can only describe as 'jumping'!

Anyone know anything?

I don't know, but on my GTX570, the issue seems to go away if I crank up AF.

The problem heavily depends on weather and time of day. It is much worse in darkness. Sometimes, during daytime, the sky just looks beautiful and sometimes it is just ugly.

And the problem annoys me much more under water than in the sky, because there it is even worse (to me).
I am not sure, if the sky banding fix actually adresses this problem and if it does, I assume it would not adress the same problem under water (as the name suggests). (?)

Could you post some screenshots of this issue ?
You say there's more than the sky banding issue, could you post some screens of the underwater/shadows/clouds issue ?

I have no screens handy now, but whenever I see screenshots from SH5, this issues jumps to my eye. It is just everywhere... Especially underwater in twilight, it is ugly as hell... I could make screenshots tonight, but basicly you just could fire up SH5 and you'll see it...

EDIT:
At least for the sky, you could have a look here:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=183737

Underwater it is exactly the same problem.
