View Full Version : Read any good books lately
About the same time that I DL'ed TMO, I started reading books on submarine warfare (one got me in the mood for the other). If anyone has any that they would like to share or recommend, please list them here. These are the ones I've read:
Wahoo, The story of Richard O'Kane
Crash Dive: True stories of submarine combat
The luck of the draw: The memoir of a WWII ubmarine
The Bravest Man: Richard O'Kane and the amazing adventures of the USS Tang.
I just finished Crash Dive and I'm in the market for another book.

"Clear the Bridge" by O'Kane
"Thunder Below" by Eugen Fluckey
My favorite US sub books are fiction, but very realistic. Written by Edward L. Beach who served on subs during WWII. They are:
"Run Silent, Run Deep"
"Dust on the Sea"
"Cold is the Sea"
They are a "trilogy". The first two are set in WWII, the third is set during the cold war.
Check out Beach's "Submarine" as well. True stories about US boats as well as his own experiences during the war on subs.

"Escape from the deep" is a good read, tells the story of Tang being sunk and how the crew escaped, only sub that had crew to escape sunk in about 150 ft of water.
"Shinano" Archerfish sinking same..

I haven't had time to read anything lately. I read a lot of great books in the past 2 years. The last book I finished was "With The Old Breed On Peleliu and Okinawa" by Doctor Eugene Sledge.:yeah:
