A flamboyant Australian billionaire has ordered a shipyard in China to build him an exact replica of the Titanic.

Pretty impressive if he can pull it off. That would be something worth seeing!

If it gets built and the price is not too high, I'd like to take a cruise.

Titanic ever since I got my first titanic model as little fascinated me.

Will he make the interior exactly as the original??

will he use the same iron and same passenger to life boat ratio as the original is my first question :hmmm:

This announcement in the same day as he announces he'll run for Parliment: http://www.smh.com.au/opinion/political-news/abbott-lukewarm-on-palmer-tilt-20120430-1xtpa.html

If I was him I'd certainly go with the improved design of the Olympic, she managed to stay afloat a while longer...

I like the idea, in case the guy really builds the ship, think of all the possibilities, for movies alone. Literally any film crew in the world could shoot there: Titanic 2,3,4,5, Titanic in Space, Titanic vs. Godzilla, etc. etc.. :yeah:

nah, not essential, the important question is: would Kate Winslet dye her hair red again and dance with me on the bow? :yep:

You do the dancing on the bow.....

I'll handle the backseat of the car scene with her. :yeah:

That was my first thought as well.... "uhh, does he realize what happened to the last one?"

If he does the upper decks as per the original (dining room, the famous staircase) then he'll have a winner on his hands IMHO.

Hopefully this will go through :yeah:

Yeah but 90% scale?

And it'll still be cheaper than buying those series of magazine where you build a scale model of the Titanic over 50 years at xx per issue, two issues per week. :-?

Yeah but 90% scale?

The article doesn't say anything about the scale, though mentions Cameron having built the film prop at 90%. :know:
Imagine how much cheaper the film would have been if he had waited for the Aussie...

As Miss Winslet is already smaller than me, I can live with 100%. Since high heels are a no-go on ships, our kissing scenes would look awkward if she wasonly 90%. :smug:

If he's having it built in China, he's pretty much ensured that Titanic II, Electric Boogaloo will end up the same way as Titanic 1. With that cheap Chinese steel and notorious corruption, it'll probably sink before it even makes it out of the harbor, too. :rotfl2:

I must confess that was my first thought too, it'll be an ice cube, not an iceberg that sinks her this time...

Yes it is a real place, and also a WW2 admiral had a similar name, so I can't say a word. Besides, sometimes when it's a real sign and not a bad joke, it really is funny.

Liar liar pants on fire! I posted that before you even found the link.

Of course I posted that it was a ship and not a man, and changed it afterward, but still... :O:
