I was ordered to do a 48hr patrol on station about 30km SW of Tokyo Bay,which I arrived in the area on the 23/4/43.My sonarman dectected a convoy heading towards the bay but I was too far away and there were a few planes in the area plus warships patroling near by so I let them go a few hours later another convoy appeared this time a Neutral convoy at this point I saved the game (bad things happen to me in this area) the convoy consisted of 2 Nakia light Cruisers 1 big Passenger ship,1 big old Tanker,1 medium/Large tanker and a whale factory ship, and 2 punny escorts.I was no more than about 350 yrds from the first Cruiser and then my sonarman decided to inform me that a mulitude of warships were approching fast/closing from the south, then I got a CTD.(don't know why)reload the game.and Instead of attacking the convoy and went for the TF in the end I managed to sink 2 Hiryu carriers and a heavy Cruiser. b4 leaving the area. what would you have done? the convoy or the TF?

If Im playing realistically /dead is dead, I would of gone after the convoy. Otherwise the TF

and about that CTD, are you using the 4gb patch?

Yes I'm useing the 4GB patch I only posted this because the convoy would have give me more tonnage and less hassle than the task force did and wondered what other skippers would have done.

Not sure what mods you're using, but ever so often I've been in range of 3 seperate convoys or TF where they just happen to cross paths. Only problem, again depending on mod settings, you attack one group, the escorts from the other groups may come join in the search...lot's of fun.

You sank two carriers, if I had a chance at those, I would've done the same thing..:yeah:

If a good attack position could be attained without being detected,I'd choose the TF any day of the week. A Shot at not one,BUT TWO Jap Fleet Carriers is an opportunity no Skipper should pass up.Even if it costs the sub, severly damaging one and sinking the other is STILL Worth it.

Well they sent me back to do anouther 48 hr stint in the same area, but this time no ctd, arrive at station 13/8/43 weather lousy overcast with rough seas somehow the jap air force found me and took out my stern tubes and i had some flooding which I contained so i decided to leave the area and that damb bloody TF decided to reappear on the 15/8/43 but this time no carriers just battleships, took out a Fuso, and the heavy cruiser Myaka and left a light cruiser nake dead in the water, sustain more flooding stern tubes out of action and to cap it all 3 crew dead, periscope destroyed, bulkheads damaged returned to Midway with 54% hull integrity.

TFs, will be more problem to American Marines on the island hopping campaign. Remember, Japanese industry couldn't keep up with American destruction of their surface fleet(s). Plus the loss of highly trained airmen, make it imperative to take out the capital ships of any TF over cargo vessels. They can be dealt with later.

Deprive the enemy of the ability to be agressive, then take out his supply lines. It keeps him on the spot, and you can more easily call the shots.

I have no quams about sinkin Battleships or a/c's but i do have a problem with how many times they show up Japan as far as I know had 1 of each BB apart from Musashi/Yamato (sisterships)these turn up not very often in FORTS but I belive in once sunk these ships should not be respawned later. The only time i ever seen the Musashi and Yamato super dreadnougths was in the battle of samar when they tried to go through the St Bernedo straights and i hit one once TF58 got credit for it.

I would always go for carriers, if I had the chance. The way I play, I rarely see any kind of capitol ships.

What mods are you playing? RSRDC or no?
