Greetings,

I've spent the day stalking a convoy and getting myself into a pretty good position. Two destroyers with six merchant. The lead destroyer is passing 90 degrees in front of me at 1200 yards. It's night and the waters are calm. Nobody knows I'm here.

I launch 2 torpedoes at the lowest depth setting and they simply go right under the destroyer.

Is this a bug or something? I mean the depth of the torpedo is 5 feet.

what year is it ?, You would be aware that US topedoes were notoriously unreliable in the early part of the war

USN torpedos had problems with depth keeping before '43. So if you fired your shots before say mid '43, this is something that would be expected historically.

What the others said.

If its before 43, you can spam all your torps at the destroyer in hopes one will keep its depth, or just target those merchants and bolt away.

They run about 9 ft deeper than your setting until 43 and will go under most escorts.

Doh! :damn:

You know, I read about that but I never made the connection.

Thanks everyone

Torps, historicaly, did go under DDs, but in the case you are mentioning, it could be either a game bug, or the game acurately depicting a faulty torpedo. In any case it is a very realistic thing to have only half of our torpedoes to work (or even less).

If you're using the Stock version, I had, on very rare occasion, encountered non-displacing DDs. That is, the DD would lay (literally) on top of the water with it's screws exposed, rather than displacing water. I had it happen with some merchants too and if I remember correctly, if it did happen with the merchants, it never happened with any ship except the European Composite freighter. Not that this was the cause in your case, but it did happen to me. Torps would go right under the ship no matter what the depth setting was. I haven't played Stock for years now, but do remember having this happen on occasion.
