Over the centuries, Facts became such a prevalent part of most people's lives that Irish philosopher Edmund Burke once said: "Facts are to the mind what food is to the body."

To the shock of most sentient beings, Facts died Wednesday, April 18, after a long battle for relevancy with the 24-hour news cycle, blogs and the Internet.

:rotfl2: Brilliant!

Of course it is possible that Facts will turn up sometime saying "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated." He may then point out that while this quote is commonly attributed to Samuel L. Clemens it was actually said by a primitive depth-recording device, connecting it directly to Subsim.com.

Rumor, Innuendo and Emphatic Assertion. Gotta love it. :sunny:

Facts are often confused with opinions and inferences.

As a general rule, I am initially suspicious of "facts" that either agree with my opinion or support one of my inferences.

You don't know anything. How do I know? Because I'm smarter than you.

And that's a fact! :O:

Sorry, couldn't resist. You're absolutely right, and we see it all the time. I think that's why he included the "sister", Emphatic Assertion, also often mistaken for Fact.

In my opinion there is no actual factual definition of "teh".

:rotfl2: Gotcha! :O:

My turn for a subtle reference. :D

When I first heard his name, I said, just as you are going to say, "But I thought he was a boy?"

"So did I," said Christopher Robin.

"Then you can't call him Winnie?"

"I don't."

"But you said---"

"He's Winnie-ther-Pooh. Don't you know what 'ther' means?"

"Ah, yes, now I do," I said quickly; and I hope you do too, because it is all the explanation you are going to get.

Because it's so far fetched that a substantial number of Congressmen and women are communists? Not really. I believe that "79-81"Socialists would have been a more appropriate yhing to say but then again, communist, socialist, progressive, same thing basically.Whatever they are, they follow a failed and flawed ideology that is at it's core is the antithesis of America.Does this mean every Democrat and Liberal are like this ? NO However, the modern Democratic party is controlled by these people, namely Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Wasserman-Schulz etc etc. There are no "Blue Dogs" anymore really, if there are, they are so far and few between they don't count.

Facts are not dead, they do get skewed but people and the ignorant masses fail to see that until later as hindsight is 20/20.The masses could not see the facts in 2008 and allowed an actual socialist to obtain the highest office in the land, but they see the facts now, well most do.

But there isn't any brain to leak, if there were a brain things would be remembered and wouldn't have to be told again.

Leave it to you to turn a funny thread into another political diatribe. Not only do you blame it all on the other side, ignoring the truth that the side you support does it just as much if not more, but you also completely ignore the tone and spirit of the thread.

Again with the 'ignorant masses'. Who are they? Is it just anyone who doesn't share your world view or is there an actual club that I can join? I find myself very interested in membership.

Lions, tigers, Garfield and catwoman are also the same thing basically, I mean they're all cats ...:)

Maybe in this thread or another I would really like to know how a young american conservative actually defines all the above (and I don't mean the cats :D)

Seriously.

Communism and Socialism are are both based on public ownership of the means of production and centralized planning.Socialism is a "Communism- lite" in a way.Socialism is not about taking away but bringing everyone to a higher level.Private property such as one's car is not taken away but it is about taking over the means of production, say Detroit?:o or attempting to control healthcare via a single payer system, but under the guise of providing healthcare for all, even if the service ends up being substandard Communism is about eliminating economic class via taking away from those that have and allowing a large, all knowing, ever wise:har: government to control the means of production etc ensure things are fair as they see fit.Under both systems, the "collective" is what matters, not the individual.Historically, given our Constitution and it's Bill of Rights which influenced our culture, America is about the individual not the collective.Individual rights are what's first, not the so called collective good. This is what has set us apart or did for a long time.

Of course, American Socialism has been(somewhat) obtained via the perpetuation of the welfare state, which has caused a slow but sure erosion of self reliance and ambition to propel one's self to a higher station in life if he/she so desires.Instead, many expect the government to help them and to take away from those who have succeeded in life.Since there is this reliance now, many are not reluctant to give more power to the government to nationalize things such as the auto industry etc. because they feel it's for the good of all or most even though they fail to realize the consequences it has.

Progressive is a code word for socialist basically, because of the historical failure of socialism/communism, they use this word to avoid the negative(well deserved) connotation that goes with the S or C.Imagine if President Obama admitted what is obvious, that he is a socialist, especially during the 2008 campaign, he would have lost big time.Progressive's claim to champion economic equality, perhaps they do but they are oblivious to reality it seems.Guess what?, 100% economic equality is not possible, there are always going to be poor people, some by unfortunate circumstances, many by absolute choice. While sad and unfortunate, taking away from others in order to do so, overlooking individual rights, is wrong and as I mentioned the antithesis of what America is all about.

There are differences but they are basically the same, both are flawed ideologies that have never and will never work.Look at Europe, hell look at the US since we jumped on the socialism train, well our version of it but still just as flawed and as much of a failure. The only thing is we started our slide a little later and have not reached the tipping point just yet, as there are more industries left to try and nationalize, more constitutional rights to violate, more people to make dependent on the government in order to have the popular support to push a true agenda, so it'll be a few years before we reach the point of say Greece but we are well on the way.

This is why I feel the remarks of Allen West were accurate, look at voting records, rhetoric, past histories, associations etc, easy to see. This is why I have firmly believed Obama is a socialist, even before he was President. All one has to do is read his books(esp his first one), take a look at his associations, remarks, actions etc, he's a politician and knows better than to label himself one, but the man is a socialist.I predict if he is reelected, his socialist soul will come much more into the light view words and actions.

Because the Allen West situation is a terrible example for a "RIP Facts" thread.I enjoyed the link though, as most did I am sure. Then someone asked me a question, so I answered ,but hey let's just bash me instead of acknowledging that.
