I rec'd email from a friend today about Space1999 to be remade into Space 2099. I did a little research and there seems to be something going on but no real firm proof, anyone else know about this?

Ha, a classic, though a hilarious one! Have the 16 DVD box of it somewhere...

Actually, this is a remake that could work. There is plenty of room for visual improvement. Improvement of wax-actor's acting. Hilarious dialogues (in Germen dub at least). And they need to come up with a slightly less hair-raising scenario of why the moon is moving away and could reach a new solar system every couple of days.

What they need to keep and only sliughtly modernise in looks is the design of the Eagle, at all cost. The Eagle is probably as iconic in the SF genre as is the USS Enterprise. To completely skip it's design would be a sin.

Space 2099 without the Eagles would be like Battlestar Galactica without a Galactica.

No. No. No. No. No. No.

Please, Flying Spaghetti Monster (http://www.venganza.org/), no.

Is nothing sacred?

I bought the whole series on VHS, still got year two on tape but I did replace year 1 with DVD digitally restored.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Space-1999-Series-1-DVD/dp/B000B0QJC2/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1334860289&sr=8-15

Anyway make to the remake, I have mixed feelings about this as remakes have not gone down well like Battlestar Galactica and V.

If Hollywood gets on it then...Dam it.

I'm not sure if this is a remake or a follow on which is possible with the next generation. Just have to wait and see how this is going to unfold.

Interesting...I don't think I've seen it since it was first on. Had a toy Eagle back then too.

I'd be more excited about the rumoured Blake 7 remake. Now, that went awful quiet awful fast...

Well it looks like its the same people that remade V.

Nuclear explosion throws the moon out of earth's orbit causing the moon to achieve hyper light speed in order to travel to all those strange worlds and then slow down to have the plot interactions, and then speed up for the next week's plot.

Hey it COULD happen! :yep:

A thermonuclear explosion caused by stored nuclear waste material. :damn:

Ok, it really couldn't happen. :nope:

Well, it could be a bit of dimension hopping. Or aliens abducting the whole moon. A wormhole opening. A time machine. An new Philadelphia experiment. An interstellar object entering the solar system, passing Earth and capturing the moon by gravit - but here the problem would be why it would vary its speed and meet so many solar system at the same time. An ancient race having established a galaxy-wide transportation system.

Hm, think we already had all that in some series, didn't we...

But any scenario - combined with that all Earth gets destroyed and the moonbase crew is the last group of homo sapiens in the universe! :)

With the moon traveling into a huge black hole at the centre of the galaxy - ouch ...! :DL

Well, I already like this new series right now ! ! ! :D

I'll make do with my childhood memories but Blake 7 would have been potentially very interesting.

Blakes'7 could have a follow up as they were all wiped out at the end. Well ermm Avon was not seen dying but you hear the federation guns going off. There is scope with this one, Dr Who revamped has done very well so maybe...

Even so, Doctor Who was revamped but continued the story and the characters, but some things went also wrong, being the last of his kind and put him like a hero/god like, in some occasions character.

Blake's 7, only saw a few things, but possibly a good remake could do the trick. I liked the BSG remake even if they began to go crazy in the third season.
Now, Space 1999, hummm. If the moon is throw out of orbit, goodbye life on earth, so...

Not quite true, The Master survived from the time war and as we know the time lords are not dead, there locked in a time bubble with most of the daleks fighting a never ending war and yes The Master turned against the time lords which resulted in him being lock in the bubble.

So who is left, well the Dr as we know and..maybe Morbius survived his encounter with the Dr...Omega came back twice! If I missed any time lord villains feel free to post, and there is of course a slight chance Romana who was left in E space.

Note to self, get out the house more. :rotfl2:

Now now this is science fiction not science fact. :03:

The Alphen's could have been wiped out on number of times and still they came through it.

And now for a classic year one episode...

WAR GAMES

That dam Bomber gets around...War Games, Alpha Child, Dragon's Domain and finally The Last Enemy.

I have to get out more often. :har: :har:

Well, from what I remember hearing, Blake's 7 was to be a straight reboot. That would have been great. Triple pronged ships and crop haired fascist space dominatrix ahoy! :yeah:

I must admit, the Federation looked good and nasty.

Third, Omega may return as the new bad ass villain for the next season.
Yes, you were also right. But Romana returned to N space to be lord president, at least in the stories. Susan may still be alive and the Doc has his daughter/clone...

Aboiut the moon going for a space walk, yes, but I like some degree of scientific fact in the science fiction. Space 1999 was being broadcast again a few months ago here, and like the series. I always wanted to know if the replicate by cloning or something, since they start with 300 or something people and the lost more than that during the series.

They probably visited the same trans-dimensional supply depot the Starship Voyager did from time to time to restock on Redshirts, Shuttles and Photon Torpedoes (http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/inconsistencies/inconsistencies-voy.htm).

Hmm I rather liked the original-could be well done. I still wish we had more original stuff like Firefly and Babylon 5 though or has that all dried up. :shifty:
