I just got my new gaming system put together and can now play SH5. I'm a big SH3 fan and I played through the SH4 german campaign. I've still never used any mods, ever. Now that my machine is ready for SH5, I want to pick that up and start playing SH5. My first question is... Should I buy the gold edition?

My new machine: Thor x2 full case, 750 corsair power supply, Asus P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3 motherboard, i7 quad core 2600k 3.4/3.8ghz with turbo, 8 gig corsair Vengeance ram, AMD XFX Radeon HD R7770 Double Dissipation 1gb DDR5 connected via HDMI, w/ 1 TB HD.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, buy the gold edition. Its not like the gold editions in the earlier games of the series where it meant something major but it does offer a little more. So why wouldn't you? Plus I think getting gold means you will get the 1.2 version without having to update. Its not a big deal to patch but why settle for less.

I just noticed online that the Gold Edition is much more expensive. If that is the case I don't see it being worth the extra cost. Maybe some others can chime in on the differences.

As far as I know the Gold Edition gives a few extra ships that you have to pass certain levels to unlock in the stock game and download from Ubisoft. Not worth it at all, unless I missed part of it.

I've still never used any mods, ever.

why in the world not :o

mods can make a dramatic difference in making the game better and its like food without seasoning is the best way i can describe it.

most mods arent about cheats or increasing dificulty but rather do things to correct stuff in the game that was unfinished or wasnt the best quality look.

i dont use very many mods myself but i cant imagine playing the game without the mods that fix things that werent working correctly.

SH5 without mods is a disaster. The only way SH5 is playable is with mods. Not using mods is like eating strawberry shortcake without the strawberries and whipped cream.

Or better yet..... it's like buying that car you always wanted and couldn't do without.... because of the hype from the dealer. But after you got it and could actually touch it, you finally see it was never painted and no guts were ever put in the engine. Then the builder and dealer say that's all we're gonna do, no refunds and you can't return it because you've opened the door to get a look inside. You get the the shaft while they got the goldmine.

SH3 with supermods and others is a whole different game. SH4 with mods is likewise much better, and without OM the so-called German campaign is a joke. If you're not using mods you're missing out on the best part of the game.

And like the others said, SH5 without mods isn't worth the money.
