How do I change the amount of ammo that I have for the deck gun? I've edited the basic.cfg file but it doesn't carry over into the game.

I also noticed while editing the basic.cfg file that it had all the subs from SH3 and none from SH4. At least none that I could find. Could someone explain this to me?

Basic.cfg seems to have been a left-over from the SH3 era which does nothing at all in SH4. The amount of ammo stored is located in various .sim files located in Data\Library\USSubParts, namely Deck_Gun_3_50, Deck_Gun_4_50 and Deck_Gun_5_25.sim.

Before you do anything else, BACKUP THOSE FILES! Even better, create your own mod installable with JSGME. Here's how to do it (assuming you're familiar with JSGME): create a new folder in MODS, name it something like Deck Gun Ammo, then create the following folders, each within the other: Data, Library, USSubParts. In other words, you'll have a Deck Gun Ammo mod with the following folder structure: MODS\Deck Gun Ammo\Data\Library\USSubParts. Copypasta Deck_Gun_3_50.sim, Deck_Gun_4_50.sim and Deck_Gun_5_25.sim from Silent Hunter Wolves Of The Pacific\Data\Library\USSubParts into MODS\Deck Gun Ammo\Data\Library\USSubParts and make all your changes to those files.

To open and tweak those files, you'll have to download Silent 3ditor (or S3D, in short) from here (http://s3d.skwas.com/).

Check the window to the left and locate wpn_Cannon. Click on the arrow to the left, and it will expand. Select wpn_Cannon underneath and look for ammo_storage on the window to the right. Expand it (click the arrow next to it), and you'll see AP, AA, HE and SS. Expand each of those, click on Amount, then locate the small box lower down named Value. Input the amount you want for each ammo type and Save. Rinse and repeat for all the Deck_Gun files.

That's great! Thanks DrBeast!

Do you happen to know how I can edit the keyboard commands? I want to add a few, but when I add them, they don't work. I know I have to edit how many commands there are, but I don't know which line to edit. I just want a Depth Under Keel command, and Report on Nearest Visual Contact command. Maybe a few others if I can figure out how to add them. Is there perhaps a setkeys program for SH4? Or does the setkeys program I use for SH3 work with SH4?

Check inside the Data\Submarine\NSS_Subclass (NSS_Balao, NSS_Gato, etc) folders. There's a NSS_Subclass.sim file in each folder, that's the one you want to modify. Your tool of choice is, once again, S3D.

What file do I edit to change the zoom? I'm using my deck gun ammo mod that I made with your help, plus I loaded Max Optics, and added it to my deck gun mod. But I was wondering which files I actually edit to change the zoom? And how many different levels of zoom can I actually use and what magnifications can I use?
