hi guys, i have been playing sh3 for a while...about 3-4 years. recently i started playing it again after 6 month break and i hit a problem/bug that really bothers me. the problem is lack of enemy aircraft on patrol. when i played sh3 stock i used to get about dozens of bombers tracking me anywhere in bay of biscay, north sea and east atlantic. there were so many aircrafts that i once shot down 9 in one patrol! when i switched to gwx only aircrafts i saw where the scripted bomber raid on the uboat bases. Other times were when i was really close to enemy convoys who had aircraft cariers. otherwise i can go a whole 1000mile distance without sighting an aircraft. i do usually detect signals of single contacts but they are slow and i crash dive before either of us see eachother. i really enjoy the air attacks of '42-'44 but this is absent from GWX. is there any mod out there that allows me to spawn aircraft like the game's stock version yet it would let me play GWX as it is for everything else? thanks.

When you are cruising from A to B... do so under 256x time compression. We reduced the number of air patrol spawns to obtain closer to historic patrol frequency.

If you travel faster than 256x TC... a shortcoming in SH3 takes effect... causing patrols and your U-boat crew to only spot each other very infrequently. (You may actually pass within feet of each other and no spotting occurs... if you are going faster than 256 TC.)

Stock SH3 had crazy-frequent patrol spawns to make up for the shortcoming I've mentioned.

And that's part of the reason they did it. In real life you wouldn't have survived encountering nine aircraft in one patrol, or at least not fighting them. There are fewer planes in GWX, but they are much deadlier, as they should be.

Yeah, it's kind of a good thing planes are somewhat hard to find. Just one is enough to end a patrol or career.

i actually don't see much difference in difficulty of shooting down aircrafts in gwx. sure the gun fire accuracy is deadlier with gwx but in stock the bombs hit the mark much better and the pilots release them much farther and sooner too. but i can see that in GWX anti-aircraft fire is much less accurate...still, i have never been sunk by aircraft in gwx. also i don't go over 128x compression in gwx. for example my patrol from st.nazaire in 1942 to halifax took me 2-3 days. i only met 2 aircrafts near the halifax coast. 2 Hawker hurricanes, one whom i shot down and the other however kept circling above me for even 12 hours after when i dived. when i surfaced again i managed to shoot it down. i met with both milch cows to refuel and i kept sending patrol reports and kept my crappy radar on. No aircraft/surface contacts. Also i did not meet a single convoy. i checked my settings and i had merged campaign on. i'm thinking i installed this mod incorrectly in terms of order. another thing is weather. it is mid july and 80% of the time the weather is stormy.

ahaha never mind. i just ran into a convoy with 3 escorts. it contained quite a few giant ships but it was relatively small and my type VIIC had not enough torpedos to sink more than 5. yet one ship was 44k tons and in total i sank about +70k tons. low on torpedo and fuel so i head home. took some depth charge damage but manage to lose them with some decoys.

sorry for cell pic but i cant use print screen shot with the resolution hack. i would love to use my fraps or SS with 1680x1050 resolution. i have more photos but they are crappy cell ones. for some reason 1 ship & 1 aircraft kill was not recorded in my log :hmmm:

it was a convoy heading for port to halifax. i was only just off the shallows of the coast. there was absolutely no aircover. the tankers i sank were all panama flag ships. this big troop ship was british. the tankers were unladen, they did not explode. took 2-3 torpedos to sink them.

I would think that (for historical accuracies sake) aircraft would be more frequent from 43-45. In numerous accounts ive read uboots encountered dozens of aircraft while making the transit through the bay. In my game (1943) i would have to dive 10-15x while making the dangerous run into the atlantic. Usually my radar would pick it up but i wouldnt stick around to see them or fight it out. If i did the pening route i saw a lot fewer aircraft but still.more than id like.

But im using nygm so its a lot different
