Hello:salute:
I am new at this Forum so i am sorry if this matter is dealt in somewhere but i honestly searched.
I am on my first patrol and i have the GWX mod. 1st Flotilla and left from Kiel. Date is August 1 1939. I am at the danish coast and i have already seen british merchants but since on the flags paper is date 3/9/1939 AL. I have been puzzled what to do.
Do i get negative renown if i sink ships like that?
Btw.
I love this game. I have always liked simulators and have been previously playing IL2, Falcon 4.0 and its incarnations and at the moment Railworks 3 is taking much of my precious time.

Welcome to Subsim.:salute:
Britain and Germany went to war on Sept. 3 1939. Don't start it before then.:haha:
Shake down time before the fire crackers go off.

WELCOME ABOARD! :sunny:
Yes, in August everybody is neutral, so you will be docked renown for sinkng any ships.
Things you can do:
1. Start your career in September. You can skip the August start if you like.
2. Use SH3 Commander. It will change the way you look at your career forever. I start on August 1, do a quick 'turnaround', sailing around the harbor for a few minutes, then end the patrol. I then use Commander to flesh out my crew, give them qualifications etc. Then I set Commander's 'Days In Base' function to 18, which means my first real patrol starts on August 19, when 14 u-boats were sent to the North Atlantic to await further orders. A nice relaxing week on station before the war starts. After that patrol I reset Commander's 'Days In Base' to Random.

Thanks for quick replies!
British being neutral on august was my thought but wanted just to be sure :hmmm:
Thanks for Steve about a tip of SH3 Commander. I might give it a try on my next campaign.
I dont actually mind if there is not action in every patrol. That was the case in real life. And i think one or two patrols before war is just good practise.
I am also playing on full realism and i was practising manual charting and targeting two weeks before i felt confident to start campaign. I like my simulators realistic. :arrgh!:
Btw. Really nice to see that this community is doing well. I have seen when communities around game slowly wither and die off.

Howdy...
I made that mistake once.. I sunk a Dutch merch in sep 39.. my fellow country men ;-(
Keep looking at the Grid map during the early years.. Green is neutral... and listen to the radio..

good that you pointed that out. I got a radio message that confuses me little pit. Here it is..
From GWX
To U-6
All U-boats in Königsberg - You are ordered to return to Königsberg. Upon docking transfer to either 1st or 2nd Flotilla. Good hunting.
GWX
I left from Kiel so my initial thought was that this message was not for me but since it was send to U-6 it kinda is..:06:
Can somebody help me with that.

Yep... this message is not for you. Like many other messages. The most important ones i.m.h.o. are those which tell you that you're allowed to attack ships of a certain country or not. So keep reading them...:salute:

No matter who they are actually meant for, all messages will be addressed to you. It's one of the quirks of the game. U-65 will send BdU a message about his latest sinkings, but you will see it as addressed to you. Silly, but nothing can be done about it. The only messages meant for you will be in reply to ones you sent in yourself.
You might even get a message saying you were lost at sea, if the real U-6 suffered that fate. :dead:

Excellent tip, appreciate it.
I just came back to SH3 after years, looking forward to try the GWX 3 mod.
