View Full Version : Lack of ships
Am I doing something wrong? My game is SH 3 GWX gold. The year is 1942 april. I went from St. Nazaire to Am 19 to CE 35 to DH 77 to Las Palma it took 91/2 hours of playing without seeing another ship. The time compression was 128 and the map at 125 km. There must be something wrong there had to be at least one ship. Is the ship spawning related to the time compression the slower the more ships? Your help would be very much appreciated. I really like all the graphics but there must also be some action. Regards Peter

WELCOME ABOARD! :sunny:
Do you have either the GWX Black Sea Campaign Files only or the GWX Indian Ocean Campaign Files Only installed. They make the game load faster for those areas by turning off the rest of the world.
Hi Sailor Steve, thank you for the reply. No I do not have either of those files installed. Are there more ships there? Regards Peter

Were there friendly ships in the ports? Is it just not enemy ships you're seeing or is it no ships at all?

If yes, then it's just plain bad luck.
I had one of those pretty grim patrols.
I suffered one going to DR 23 in March 1941-out in nowhereville. Only ship I saw was outbound NW of Lisbon. It was a USA flagged granville.:damn:

Install/enable the GWX Merged Campaign via JSGME and that will populate every area of the SH3 world.

Sounds like one of them crappy patrols. Welcome to my world.
Thank you all for the replies. Just no Enemy ships. There was one friendly convoy. I will try the merged campaigns via JSGME. Regards Peter

Beware , the enabling of this mod will be very heavy on your PC as it will add ships all over the world.
If you don't want to patrol for example , the Indian Ocean don't enable it.
It will not add more ships in the Atlantik , I think.
As Gargamel said : An other crappy patrol!
In one patrol I was heading to Capetown with a IXC/40 in 1944 and it took a month to see an enemy ship.

The merged campaign would override any other campaign areas previously enabled.

I am a conservative player. I check the pull down chart looking for the shipping lanes per the year I am operating, I look for traffic that starts to funnel where maybe 2-3 lanes start to merge, and I place my boat there.
I check for the outer limits of air patrol too and mark them on my map with a compass to try to steer clear.
Then I conserve fuel rather than burn it.
When I do get action, that is when I will run flank speed to intercept.
I do go to my assigned zone, but only for 24 hrs, and then I head for my predetermined hunting zone.
The crew eats well, we listen to good music, have farting contests .. and we get our fair share of action.
Again, use that pull down chart! And, use the milch cows to extend sea time!
:salute:
Thank you all for the replies. I will be guided by all your suggestions. Regards Peter

There has to be a balance between game play and realism. Which one the player chooses is an individual choice.
If you want more ships, choose spy satellite, SH3 patrol, or some other megamod. GWX tries to balance graphics, realism and game play, but it is a balance.
