Help - SH4 rebooting my system

My computer reboots when running SH4 then displays displayes the error "A hyper transport sync flood error occurred on last boot" during POST. I have the u-boat add-on. I've noticed it happens usually when I switch to periscope view or when there are heavy graphics like a ship on fire. I've searched other forums and tried some of what they suggested like replacing the power supply, increasing the NB voltage. I've also tried lowering the graphics in-game and tried a lower resolution. Also, this just started when I installed my new GeForce GT 520 video card. Before that I was using the onboard video which made the game too slow. I thought it might be overheating, so I also have been running with the chassis open.

This has me stumped and it's very annoying since I really like this game. Anyone have any ideas? Computer spces below. Thanks!

I would check to see if your computer is running your graphics off the graphics card or the mother board. My nvidea gives me the option of running from the mainboard or the card.

The issue your having is related to your cpu. If you have overclocked it undo it. If you can check to see if your graphics card is running your graphics do it.

If your clear on both counts then I would suggest looking into your bios setting and seeing if your voltage settings match what your mainboard and cpu should be running. If not change them to match your hardware. If they are then a bios upgrade might be in order.

Welcome to the fleet cgh123.:up:
I'm not a computer expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I have a few ideas that might help.
First, when you installed your new graphics card, did you remember to switch your screen cable over (plug it in) to your new graphics card, or is it still plugged into the original port?
Also, you must go into your System BIOS in order to switch your graphics from the PC to the new card. You should have a User Manual, either a hard copy or somewhere on your hard drive, maybe in the "Help" files that explain how to access your system BIOS.
Again, I'm no expert, but your power supply seems a little on the lite side. I would've installed no less than a 650 watt supply.
One more thing: You say you have the latest BIOS. Does that mean you updated it yourself? If you did, did you wait for the BIOS to fully complete the update process before you rebooted? You may have a bad or incompatible BIOS. I would try reverting back to the original BIOS, or updating it again and wait for it to complete before you reboot your PC.

A few pointers:

Did you do a thorough uninstall of your previous graphics drivers before installing the new one? I recommend you uninstall your current drivers using Driver Sweeper (google it and download from the site of your choice) and then do a clean install of the latest nVidia drivers.

Is your new PSU a brand name or an El Cheapo version? Avoid the latter like the plague, as they usually turn out to be far more expensive than their initial low cost would suggest.

Do NOT run your rig with the case open, as it disrupts the airflow! Unless your case shipped with no fans whatsoever, it's always best to keep the case closed. Your case should have at least two fans, one in the bottom front and one high up in the back. The front fan will suck cool, fresh air into the case, and the one in the back will expel the heated air (warmer air always goes higher).

After trying most of the stuff listed above, I could not resolve the problem so I installed a new Radeon 6570 and have not had any reboots. I am hoping it fixes the problem. Unrelated, but I have noticed that when I use 8000x time compression the performance is pretty slugish. The mouse moves really slowly. Is this normal?

You might want to consider searching the SH4 forums for the link to the Large Address Aware utility. It seems to work better for me than the 4Gb patch for enabling the game to utilize more memory. That may well address your "slow down" at high time compression (TC) . Even at that, there are events that will cause the TC to stutter and almost stop. Examples are getting within 50-100 miles of a port, especially one that is highly detailed with a lot of ships, or passing just outside of sound or radar range of another ship or convoy. I use the latter occasionally as a clue to "stop and listen" without relying on the sonar operator. Hope some or any of that is helpful! Good Hunting.
