Collectors, step ahead please. :DThe end of the road is here for Rachel Veitch's beloved "Chariot." After 576,000 miles -- or more than a trip to the moon and back -- in the same 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente, the 93-year-old Orlando grandmother is stepping on the brakes due to age-related macular degeneration (http://www.foxnews.com/topics/health/macular-degeneration.htm#r_src=ramp) in both eyes. She realized her vision had completely failed her in early March after running a "bald-faced red light," Veitch told FoxNews.com.
"I am legally blind, so I can no longer drive my lovely Chariot," she said by phone. "They don’t have to take it away, I would not dream of driving that car again."

She sure got her money's worth out of that ride.... unless she is still making car payments (you know how finance companies are). :D

Good on her! The good humor in which she took her situation is admirable. If some other drivers would own up to their inabilities to continue driving safely and not stubbornly insist on endangering themselves and others, the streets and highway would be much safer. And the same goes for those who are "temporarily unable" doe to their excesses...

I kind of wish Jay Leno would buy her car; it would be nice to see her get a nice price for the "old dependable"...

Irv Gordon entered the Guinness Book of World Records in 1998 with 1.69 million miles on his 1966 Volvo P1800. It is reported (http://www.forbes.com/sites/jimgorzelany/2011/12/09/cars-that-can-run-for-over-200000-miles/) that he has now accumulated close to three million miles on the same car.

Yikes! :yeah:
