Epic Moment's thread

There are times in gaming when things go horribly wrong(see the F--- Moments! thread (http://subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=153985&highlight=FUUUUU+Moments)), and then there are times when everything goes right. Whether it's luck, skill, or a mix of both, you come out feeling like a boss, holding your head high, nothing can stop you. On occasion things will go horribly wrong a second latter shattering the charade, but still.
So go on, brag about these moments.


I recently restarted playing GTA IV, and I enjoy the occasional fist fight if someone rams into me or my car. While speeding in my Sabre GT I accidentally hit another car. The driver gets out and starts to go toe to toe with me. Of course someone else has to join into the brawl and now it's 2 vs me. I beat one down, and lost track of the other( I had seen him go down and figured he was out for the count). I get into my car to drive away when the second guy comes trotting back up and pulls me from my car. Wanting to end the fight quickly I pull out my bat, but accidentally draw my pistol first. Seeing my pistol the pedestrian draws a shotgun. It's now his shotgun vs my bat. :dead: He quickly back steps and hits me with a blast. Luckily the blast didn't kill me. He keeps back stepping and is about to fire his shotgun again when I bring the bottom of the bat into his face knocking him out. I pick up his shotgun, get in my car and drive to the hospital. :haha:


Another scenario had me looking for more pistol ammo. Earlier I had been in another fist fight, when the police got involved and attempted to arrest the two guys attacking me. One makes a bolt for it, and the other enters a shoot out with the police. I'm standing around watching this happen when a fat old security guard decides to join in on the gun battle. Whose side does he join? The criminals. :haha: Eventually the police gun him down and I get his gun. This lead me to realize that the security guards around the docks had guns, so I drive down to the docks and look for one. I find one under an overpass, and pull up next to him. He turns around and starts walking the other way and I hit him with a full blast from my shotgun. If my head lights had been working, or had he been standing under a street light, I would have noticed the fact he is a cop. Unfortunately I didn't. I get an automatic 3 star rating, and spend the next 30(IRL) minutes trying to flee from the ever present cops. I went up and down the highway by the airport twice. Eventually I try to drive through an alley and slam into a gate(I figured it'd break) and I get ejected from my car. I run down the alley and find my same car but in black and hop in. The chase continues, after working for it and nearly wrecking this second car, I get away. :up:

As with most of my fondest gaming memories, this one's from HL1's Day of Defeat.

Was playing DoD_Caen on US side (this was before UK was in the game) and as
usual I was being my awesome self (I was very good at that game :smug:) and
managed to get to the second to last flag (as in german's 2nd).
I was carrying the M1 Carbine, a grenade and the pistol.

I captured the flag and as soon as I did so, 2 germans ran from their 1st flag.
Emptied my Carbine on them, killing both, threw my grenade towards the 1st
flag and killed a 3rd baddie. Just as I was about to reload the M1, 2 more germans
ran towards me, so I switched to the pistol and pulled a 1-shot-headshot
on both of them, a second later 2 more germans came running at me and
again, one-shot them.

At that point, I decided it was better to run back to the 3rd flag and reload the
M1. :haha:

Ahh that reminds me of an epic moment in CS:

As the last surviving Terrorist in cs_assault, with only a single CT remaining, I was inside the higher portion of the ventilation shaft that runs from the roof to just outside the hostage room door. The shaft can also be entered from withing the building by climbing a short ladder. After climbing the ladder there's a 5 meters straight part, a 90-degree turn to the right, a few more meters straight and then another short ladder to the part where I was. At this point shaking with fear no doubt. Now, anyone entering the vent using the ladder inside the building makes sort of an OOOMPH sound, very quiet but easily audible with headphones. Not before long I heard this sound, which meant that someone was coming for me. I started counting seconds, and when I judged enough time had passed I emptied a whole clip through the vent wall, towards the part leading from the 90 degree turn to "my" ladder.

The result was as expected: *BOOM headshot*, followed by "ZOMG he's wallhacking" and getting banned from the server :D

You know, someone needs to make a good MP game like DoD or CS again. I had several good times with those. Hopefully the new CS is descent, although I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to CoD it. I always loved sniping in DoD, although by the time I got to the server someone usually always took the spot. :x

Probably taking down that 109 during the Holland Campaign whilst playing a DXXI, he'd already hit me a couple of times, and Hunter was playing 'The Show Must Go On' by Queen over TS which increased the epicness by a factor of ten. Was getting close to the point where I'd have to disengage when I managed to get a lucky shot on his engine which took him down.

I remember one time in Red Orchestra 1 I was playing as a AT soldier with a panzerfaust. I was running and went around a corner and to my surprised had a Russian sticking a PPSH in my face. I, panicking shot the panzerfaust and actually hit him. Throwing him back about 20 feet, and blew his limbs off!

I had a pretty epic moment in NBA 2k11 the other night. Was playing at Celtics @ Bulls as the Celtics in My Player mode. We were down by 15 with 7 minutes to play when I came off the bench, we went on a huge run to close the gap to a basket with under 30 seconds to go. The Bulls try inbounding to their 2 guard, I steal the ball, pop up a fade away jumper and sink it to force OT 88-88. We won in OT.

I know nobody really cares about sports games but damned if this wasn't a great game.

GTA IV again.

I'm running on foot from a 1-star Wanted level. There are at least 5 cops behind me, so I jump off an over pass and onto a box truck(that scene you see in all the movies).

Niko lands on the truck feet first, rolls backwards because the truck is moving, hits the wall he just jumped off of, rolls in front of the truck and gets run over. He then stands up like nothing happened. :haha:

I've just remembered another IL2 flight. Let me just find the thread...

Yes, that's right. Myself, Hunter and Task Force. Hunter in a Fuhrer transport (Condor) and me and Task Force in Fw-190s. I was fully expecting to stall out of the sky in the damn thing. We were singing Schroeders favourite football song when we were bounced by Spitfires, we fought them off and Hunter went full speed for Berlin where he was bounced by the other Spitfires and then decided to fly under a bridge and flew into it instead.
With Hunter out of it it was me and Task Force versus the other Spitfires, Task Force flies the 190 like he was born in it, but me? Well, you know my track record.
Thus, imagine my surprise when I not only manage to not stall into the ground but go on to shoot down three Spitfires, one of which was on Task Forces tail at the time, it was a pure luck shot that I hit that one.

I honestly wish I flew with you guys more. Hell I'd be up for some Il-2 today but I look at user controls and think of trying to get everything set up with my joystick, and I get a headache.

That video is pure win. The part where he collides with a car in the middle of river while flying was unbelievable.

The only thing that would've made this video any better would be if he made pinball noises when Niko was bouncing off the buildings.

Had one today in BF3, Kharg Island, Rush, attacker.

We had pushed them up to the last two M-COMs. Only one left. MY buds were pinned down by heavy gunfire from the Russians, I was assault with DOA-12 Shotgun. That won't do any harm unless up close, so I thought, what the heck, might as well do a run for it. I jumped through a hole in the wall on the right side of the warehouse, ran along the wall, turned left, killed one Ruskie, killed another, ran up the stairs, killed a third enemy, armed the M-COM, and stayed there until it blew up, and we won. It was glorious, I felt my pulse raising with every second!

Was testing out my custom map in Combat Mission:BN, playing the german side.

This M10 makes a mad rush right next to my 4 infantry squads, pinning down
or wounding most of them. The M10 sits there for 2 turns, just shooting my
troops left and right when finally one of the soldiers gets up and throws a
grenade which lands right on top of the M10 killing everyone but the driver
who bails out and is shot dead next to his precious tank.

That was pretty cool. :yep:

Port Valdez, BC2. Playing Rush with some mates from school.
Pushing on the second to last base as attackers(Russian). My friend and I flank around with the Vodnik and are making a run for the Apache. We kill two yanks making a run for the Apache as well and take off as we are taking small arms fire. I have the stick and my mate is on the gun as we start tearing them apart and blow both crates. We start making runs on the next base when we see a friendly squad is making a run for the Blackhawk and is receiving enemy fire. We fire on the hostile squad kicking up a huge dust cloud giving our guys cover as they take off with the Blackhawk. My gunner pipes up on the mic saying "bring us in low on the radio building, I want a shot inside". I swing down and unleash a full salvo of rockets into the building blowing off an entire wall and reveal about eight hostiles inside defending the M-COM. He kills about six of them when he screams into the mic "RPG!". I look up just in time to see two engineers running onto the roof with rockets ready. At this point we are less then 100 yards from the building, they cant miss :o. My gunner adjusts and kills one as I start rolling left and claw for altitude as the engineer fires. I swear I could read the serial number off the rocket as it went by. We didn't have time to unclench as a half second later I see the Blackhawk above us and coming in our direction. A rocket streaks up from from the trees below us and destroys the Blackhawk sending it into a tailspin as it starts losing altitude VERY rapidly. I pitch the nose down and cut the throttle diving under the flaming wreckage as it falls and explodes in almost directly over us sending fire and steel cascading over us. I pull us back up to altitude and look over the base and our wake of destruction. My other mates are on the ground and have watched this whole thing unfold. They are cheering, clapping, and yelling. I'm about to join in when I realize I have -600 points for two team kills. So after this display of aerial mastery all I have left to show for it is two team kills. The Blackhawk crew bailed out just before it exploded as I passed underneath and they got killed by my rotor blades :damn:. In school the next day we all agreed that was our battlefield moment for the ages.:|\\

GTA IV:
Was being chased by 3 cars that had someone reaching out to shoot at me. I hit the hand brake, through the car in reverse and do a 180, so all 3 cars are now "in front of me" I proceed to fire back with my SMG, killing two drivers, and damaging the 3rd car to the point it catches on fire(driver and passenger hopped out on fire.) Swerve the front end around again(which is really easy) and continue going straight. :D

It felt like something out of a movie, and I'm really surprised I didn't run into anything.

Combat Mission:BN

Was playing a night mission and had manned a row of 4 buildings, 1 airborne squad each.

Sent a 2-man scout team to check the buildings just across the road, which
turned out to be busy with germans. They opened up on my scout team and
a second later every damn gun from the 4 squads opened on the 1 building simultaneously.

Quite a sight with all the tracers ricocheting off the walls. :yep:
