Hi everybody.

Well I bought and tried Silent Hunter V. With mods installed I thought it was fine and I can see that with time and with more work it could be great. But for now the seven year old Silent Hunter III with the GWX mods installed has won me back completely. I think it's just great :) I can see a parallel between Silent Hunter III and IL-2. IL-2 has hung on since 2001... 2003 in IL-2 1946's graphics engine. They're still playing it on the hyperlobby. When IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs Of Dover is finished they will probably finally switch over. IL-2 and Silent Hunter III have something in common. I think there are quite a few of us IL-2 people who end up playing two sims because both are so good.

Agree completely.

IL2 is a great flight sim. Surely one of the best. I still play it.

Now, after a very long break (2+ years!!), I'm coming back to SH3. I forgot everthing though!! :o

I don't have SH5, not sure I'll ever get it. SH3 with mods is such a great sim.

It's still being played, and still receiving official updates!

Given, the guys doing the updates are modders and not the original developers, they have the developers' full endorsement. :yeah:

I've taken a hiatus from Il-2 though. It's always been very static and boring. Go from A to B, blow up some planes, land, rinse, repeat. I would really love some support to change the way bombers, recon, and transports are handled, but right now it's just fighter-jock heaven.

I've always been laughed at online for my inability to shoot, but no one ever says anything when I blow up their carrier with a direct hit with a pair of 1000kg bombs from 5000 meters! That's part of the reason why I don't go online anymore. Plus, the AI make better friends. :88)

I see your point Luno, and the same could be said about SH3 ;)

Still, the IL2 team have done an excellent job. I have some flying experience in the military and for a computer game the planes feel very realistic. Much more than WWIIOL for example.
