In an effort to eliminate potential "unpleasant emotions" among students, the New York Department of Education has placed a ban on mentions of "birthdays," "dinosaurs," "Halloween," and "dancing," in city-issued tests, the New York Post reports.
According to the paper, the mandate is meant to curb fear that references to those topics might stir controversy among students. Dinosaurs, officials said, could bring up evolution, Halloween could suggest paganism, and birthdays might create animosity among students who are Jehovah's witnesses, since they don't celebrate them.
Are you kidding me? This is absolutely insane...

But this is what the US is all about :D
I can foresee evolution truthers' slogans like "Dinosaurs - we will remember them !"
Um, I'd like to get into college without taking a standardized test because tests might breed unhealthy competition, might cause angst over categorization of people, are against my religious principles, and I don't do very well on those types of tests... :D

I can just see a room full of students choking back the tears because a test mentioned a birthday party.
:hmmm:
Nah...
There must be a mistake...it is New York not New Mecca.

Just wait 'til you get into your 60s and see if birthdays don't choke you up... :D

Really? If New York City has time for this kind of "decisions" then their bureaucracy has over staffing problem.
Really? If New York City has time for this kind of "decisions" then their bureaucracy has over staffing problem.
You see, the problem is with the decision makers at the top, not the general bureaucracy; the lower- to mid-level personnel have to takes test and be verified as being qualified and competent to at least minimally perform their duties. The decision makers at the top, who are either elected or appointed with no such vetting process, just have to be popular... :DL

If they outlaw asses...
Good lord, that would mean the end of government, talk radio, Fox News, and most of the people who are driving on the road at the same time i'm driving!... :D

Excellent game plan.:DL
Political correctness: a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition, that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

In my experience, the people who feel offended the most are usually the ones who don't belong to the group which they claim to "defend" - as if minorities can't speak for themselves and need some paternalistic guardian angels. :shifty:

Yea, and what's worse they usually do it for their own personal gain, to look good around the other PC cops. My problem is my age, half the time I don't know how not to be incorrect. I sure hope I don't have to take a damn course.:haha:

Maybe because some kids can't dance for one reason or another. Wouldn't want to hurt a kid's feelings and thereby disrupt their learning experience. :06:
In a way I'm glad I don't have kids, because they would be learning things more or less the way I was taught. That might make them too rough around the edges for some schools.

I fear for this generation of kids who are being shielded from any unpleasantness through their youth. Your world view and outlook need to be gradually exposed to a complicated world to learn coping skills, the same way your immune system needs to be exposed to germs in order to function properly. When these kids graduate and hit the job market it's gonna be like stripping Bubble Boy of his bubble and tossing him into a typhoid ward. Not pretty.

Can you refer to someone as donkey?
You can if you meet the following conditions:
1. You must ask permission first.
2. You must submit a written apology in advance.
3. You must guarantee that no donkeys were injured while doing this.
4. And finally you must promise never to do it again.

I wonder, what kind of punishment they would dish out for these super "offensive actions" like calling someone a donkey.
Can I ask the School system to also ban the words geometry, algebra, java, and all related terms, as they cause me distress.

It would make them too rough around the edges for some parents. The schools are only responding to the deluge of ridiculous complaints from parents and community members at large. Eventually, you get tired of fighting the same battle every day and just ban everything. Can't say I blame them.

None. Parents want the rules enforced, but only for everybody else's kid.

Don't forget french, calculus, and physics
french, calculus, and physics imply failure, and by being surrounded by failure, we are under constant distress
Why don't we ban the word Monday? It causes everyone distress...

Great idea. While we're at it we should also ban the word "Saturday" and "Sunday" because those words may cause distress in people who have to work on those days -- along with the words "Steak", "barbeque", "beer", "baseball" and "football". :yep:
