Ok guys, here is what I am looking for. Something that will manage (sort, delete duplicates, get cover art, etc) a fairly large library of music (mostly Itunes).

This is for a friend of mine with a large collection. I purchased "Tune Up" software at her request - and it sucks! It has be the most useless software for this. It can't handle the whole collection at one time, its slow and just have much value at all. So - what software would you all suggest?

MH...

The user has a library of 44,000+ mp3 files. Some are labelled, some are not. Some are duplicates.

The user wants something that will analyze the file, name it properly, tag it with the relevant album/artist data, detect and delete duplicates, etc.

They want something that will "sort out" their music library without effort on their part.

Not sure about automatic duplicate detection and deletion, but this should handle pretty much everything else on the list. Open source of course.

Excellent Fincuan! Thank you very much - that will be a huge help at least!

OK...i think there is itunes plug in that does all of this.
I haven't tried it so i don't know how good it is.
Other than that there are lots of softwares that work with data bases for tagging but i would not bet on the reliability if you have in mind autos caning 40 000 songs.
You most likely will end up with a big mess.

Tuneup is an itunes plug in that is SUPPOSED to do all that - but it doesn't work worth a wooden nickel.
