View Full Version : How do you play your partrols!
I don't no if its just me but, i noticed there is something i always tend to do while playing SH3. So my question is this, is there something you have to have or do while playing that may give you luck in getting your sinks, etc?
Example:
I will always have a crate of beers beside me to chill with, drum and bass going through my headset (unless under attack), and a few prerolled ciggerettes to help witht he stress of dying if i ever do! This seems to be the routine that allows me to play 100% realism and still sink lots of tunnage, make the right moves and think clear (even though drunk :haha:).

for the most part I play my patrols fast moving and high tonage. I am also one to do deck gun attacks if a torpedo attack is not worth it, which has caused me some trouble with Q ships.
I can only imagaine, if the Merchant has weapons i take them out with the deck gun, if its over 7000 T i will torpedo once to make it a quicker process!

Well,as I start going ut of port I listen to that Das Boot music a minute or two and when I spot a small ship=deck gun,big ship=torpedo.
If the hunt didn't bring me enough tonnage, then if I have too much unfired torpedoes I head to the closest enemy port where I usually get my crew killed if big enough.During the cruise I go on the net on my iPhone and when I actually go back home,I listen to the fanfara again and then I quit my only patrol for today(if weekday).

I play with a cup of coffee on my desk for as long as possible.
Sometimes a bag of chips will keep me occupied.
Max TC used is 128 so it takes days of real time to complete the patrol.
I leave the PC running when I don't play because I hate all troubles that a corrupt save will give me.
...having an appalingly boring patrol up in the top of AN. last night i listened to the pedestrian dull chop chop chop chop of far away screws, the first thing ive heard for almost a week.
the weather is fine, sunny, dull some rain.
i had the gramaphone playing as i peeled potatos and made my dinner in the kitchen, made a coffee and come back to check....nothing. so i had my dinner and then washed up. i TC'd up to 64 on the hydrophones and let that run for an hour or so in game time...nothing. so i surfaced and exited. i quite honestly could'nt stand it any longer
im not a high TC player - but sometimes its very tempting.
its early 1941 and as dull as a puddle. and for some reason my engine crew seem to get tired quickly, maybe they are as bored as me.
and on that note...

^^ I just finished a patrol like that. Got so bad I decided to head home with 5 fish still in the tubes, but I was running out of fuel. I even teleported once I got through the Orkneys - which I usually never do.
Normally I play at max 128TC for 1-2 hour long bursts.
I play at 32 TC and no more! takes me a long time to complete my partrols, only play at 1024 to test a mod or to play on my arcade career
Submerged as long is possible at 3 knots, I'm not in a hurry... at least I don't have provisions limitation...btw is there a mod for this? Sound check every 30 km... :ping:sometimes is pretty boring ... if I hear something turn towards it and wait until my sonar guy can hear it too... :hmmm: plotting targets course... and act accordingly... hunt them if they are slow leave them if fast... sometimes listen Wagner and Lilly Marlene :D.
