I was aproaching to engage a medium convoy, but the destroyers got me at persicope depth.... :dead::dead: the aft torpedo and engines rooms full of water... Luckily I manged to destroy all the destroyers (thank you, homing torpedo:rock:). At the last second (the sub had a 70° inclination) I emerged and sunk the remaining merchants with the deck gun and 40mm Bofors:arrgh!: I spent 2 days there waiting for the repairments, (like a *** sitting duck) and now when EVERYTHING WAS OKAY ... I gave the command "ahead standard" and nothing happened... the propellers didnt move. In the "mechanics section" the diesel engines appears with the vertical red bar, but the bar is fulled in that shining red ( i think that means its repaired), I cant drag the diesel engines to the "repair box", so i dont know what s going on, are they fixed or not?? im a piece of bait waiting for its destiny in the middle of the celebes sea!!!:damn: i would hate to restart this mission, i made more than 50.000 tons... any help would be great :DL

Doesnt have the submarine an emergency sail for such occasions?? hahah
They could use the periscope for mast haha...

We can assume you've taken the crew off 'battle stations' and they're not too exhausted to man the ship? It's surprising how often that gets overlooked.

I can only speak about the vanilla version, but your engines might be destroyed.

If you can't drag them to the repair box it means that repair isn't an option.

Go to 60 feet and see if your E motors work. If not it could be your props gone.

As Torplexed said, check out your crew first

I'm not sure, but I think the red shows damage. A full red bar would mean 100% destroyed and would, of course, be beyond repair. Not everything can be repaired at sea. I hope this didn't happen too far from home. ;)

im playing 1.4 with no mods.

As Torplexed said, check out your crew first when i was taking damage, the "officer in charge of saying things" never said props or diesel engines destroyed.. in the "mech.. section" there isnt a place for the props, yes it is for the axis that connects the prop with the engine (i dont know how its called, i have the spanish version, it says "arbol de helice") but it seems to be fine. No, my E engines doesnt work either.

He will not do that. SH4 has only 2 engine´s in stead of 4. That is the game reads 1 engine as 2 (i think), anyway your engine´s are problebly dead. :cry: There will be other members along who know this better than i do.:doh:

You said you were playing SH4 1.4 vanilla, so your propellers are maybe destroyed. If you have external camera on theck that out.

Full red means they are destroyed and cannot be repaired. at least that is the way it happened to me.

Yes, it must be the engines, the props are fine, they appear outside. Well, an exellent mission thrown at the dump...


I will find out the meaning of that red bar, even if i have to crash the sub against a mogami or something like that:DL.

Mr dirt and TorpX are right, the red bar increases as the damage is more severe, the more the red bar is full, minor chances/more time you have to repair it...

Sadly, my engines were full full full with red..... :cry::cry:

I emerged at the torpedo training (mogami) and let him sink me... the red bar(s) increased more with any new shot i got...

I saw that the game is pretty unrealistic at the "cannon warfare", the mogami had to hit me with 15 rounds of her principal battery (205mm) to sunk me, i think that one or two hits of those cannons would be enough to tear appart a submarine...

Regrettably there are no rescue missions in the game. Sounds like your in the same position as the skipper of the Grenadier. He tried to rig a sail with a dead engine, but had to scuttle when Japanese escorts approached.

The damage to her propulsion system was irreparable. Attempting to bring his ship close to shore so that the crew could scuttle her and escape into the jungle, Commander Fitzgerald even tried to jury-rig a sail. Stock is very unrealistic, playable and fun, but unrealistic, so why play it when you can use a mod like TMO that resolves 90% of the issues. Trust me, with TMO you wouldn't even think of surfacing within 10,000 yards of a warship in daylight.

An excellent mission is when You and the crew come back home safelly.
Besides get U-Boat Missions its far more better.

I know one thing; that I like about TMO and that's the storms! You can't see your hand in front of your face day or night. :D

The the sonar man says "Sonar contact bering 330 @ 1500 yards!" Looks like your in for a surface attack, getting the deck gun ready, all ahead flank! Left full rudder stear to 335 degrees!

Yea TMO - RSRDC they both rock!!!!:rock:

Hi, I just downloaded RFB (Real Fleet Boats) last night. The mega-mod is along the same lines as TMO it changes the game to make it more realistic, just in a different way than TMO.

The setup I have is SH4 v1.5 RFB v2.0 RSRDC for RFB v2.0 and MaxOptics IV. I couldn't find nor do I think there is a version of OTC for RFB.

There are a few differences between the to mods.

~Parascopes are on the more real side in RFB but you can add MaxOptics IV if you don't like it.

~Radar is different than TMO, you don't have the range settings like in TMO plus no zoom in on the radar either.

~The Gato boat I'm running looks cleaner than in the other mod.

~Crew manning stations are a little different.

~Icon buttions are a little different along with the stop-watch clock.

And if you read the v1.5 RFB PDF file it will tell you about the damage information that was changed in the game.
