Here's a hypothetical:
You come upto scope depth and find three targets perfectly lined up. They are a capital ship (BB), a huge tanker estimated at 15k tons, and a passenger liner.*
You have one eel left, guaranteed to sink the one ship it hits, which do you shoot:
Early war?
Mid War?
Late war?
For arguments sake, let's call that jan '40, July '42, and January '45, give or take a few months.*
Which do you shoot and why? *
Inbound or outbound?
Inbound
Early-War: Tanker
Mid and Late-War:Passenger Liner (probably carrying troops)
Outbound
The BB. Great for demoralizing admirals! :yep:
.
With only one eel left, I'd better be inbound. If I am outbound, I need to remember not to sleep with the Flotilla Supply Officer's wife before departing on patrol as he has the final say regarding my torpedo loadout. Hmmm....maybe I'd better check our food inventory too. LI, you go measure our fuel tanks....just in case.
Early war - the BB because those verdamnte prize rules don't apply and all I need to know is that it is a hostile warship (as opposed to one of our own). Sinking the former gets me the Knight's Cross; sinking the latter gets me shot.
Mid-war, I sink the tanker so as to deprive the allies of all that fuel and thereby limit their mechanical mobility on land and in the air. Besides, my 1WO is a pyromaniac and I owe him a favor anyway.
Late war, I sink the liner; as said before, it's probably now a troop ship. Hope those guys can swim!

BB everytime - then surface and sink the rest with the deck gun! :woot:

That only works early war :O: by mid and late war, all the ships in question are armed.

I agree with in 'In-game' terms....hit the tanker in the stern and if she doesn't sink you will at least slow her down and or eventually stop her, the convoy will move on and you should get the opportunity to finish her off with your deck gun (should you have one).
At best your only stop the Tanker before you have to sail off once they have guns on there deck. Early war you can finish it off with the deck gun.
Balz would have his crew do the hoochie woochie mit Schwooggie twirling dance and silent singing. Then he would torpedo the BB because it is more heroic.
For early war he would wear a chicken tea cozy
Mis war: A turkey tea cozy.
Late war: A Patagonian black necked swan tea cozy.
:D
Respectfully, many of you are missing this important point:
You have one eel left, guaranteed to sink the one ship it hits, which do you shoot:

I would probably be slightly cunning, radio BdU after firing a torpedo at the BB, then stalk the other two (if they stay together) then assemble a wolfpack and combine deckgun and wolfpack eels:salute::arrgh!:

I agree this is probally the best solution to this, but i hit the BB inline with the engine room to disable it so i new were i had left it lol! Thats if they dont repair it in time!
