sonar

My sonarman gives me a report while I am on the surface ;warship bearing 333,I am at Midway so it is no enemy,but when I go to periscopedepth and use the sonar by myself I don't hear anything.
Is that normal,you can't hear friendly ships?

You might get that situation when the target is moving slowly (a mercie under 5 kts).
Sometimes, depending on version, mod set up and specific machine you're using the game might get ... moody!
