View Full Version : [CM:BN] Dowly(US) vs. Crécy(GER) Quick Battle #1 AAR
Let me just start this by saying that I have ALWAYS sucked at this game and
the last time I played Combat Mission was the one with Finns (CM 3?).
Also, Crécy and I agreed to not read each other's AAR's, so don't post
any "spoilers". ;)
Anywho, this is the US (me! me! me!) side AAR of our first PBEM game. Only quickly
tried the game today, so there will be lots of mistakes and the turn reports won't
be too detailed, at least not until I learn a bit more about the game.
I can't remember the exact battle settings, but guess that's not so important. :hmmm:
It's a meeting engagement, fighting over a small town, 60 turns.
My forces consists mainly of infantry, because I thought I'd be defending. :dead:
I did pack some Bazookas with me + 1 M4 Sherman and 1 M10 TD.
I forgot to take a screenshot of the unit composition screen, so I won't be
giving a detailed list of what I have, so let's just stick with "****loads of infantry"
for now. :yep:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
TURN 1
I decided to start how every patriotic american would: by blowing **** up.
So, my 3x81mm off map mortar hammers the right-hand forest and my on map
60mm mortars kick the crap out of the fascist forest on the left.
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/T01_01.jpg
The 60mm fire will kick up during next turn AFAIK and continues for a few turns.
Should keep Crécy at bay for a while.*
As for my general plan (which I came up with as I was looking at the screenshot in Photoshop), it is relying heavily on the fact that Crécy goes
straight to the town, preferably with lots of armor so he doesn't have as much
infantry as I do. Then again, I don't know how the scoring works in CM:BN, but
I'm assuming that whoever controls the most of the town by the end wins. :hmmm:
Right, the plan. I have my troops split up by platoons, I have 2 platoons as
the "inner" group which will go straight to the town and 2 platoons as the "outer"
group which will try a pincer and hit Crécy's flanks.
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/T01_02.jpg
This can really go either way, haven't played against Crécy other than in Shogun 2,
but in that he was very aggressive, relying quite a bit on cavalry, so I'm hoping
he does the same here, but with tanks. Many of my squads are carrying bazookas
to deal with any armor I might come up against.
*We have since agreed to not use 1st turn arty/mortar
Oooh! I was messing around with this map in a QB the other night. Looking forward to this. I don't think we've had any BN AARs yet.
Hehe, hopefully it'll be enternaining. I'm a devoted Close Combat fan, so CM
is something I have avoided for a long time simply because of the UI (well, mainly).
It's just so.. crap compared to Close Combat (or Achtung Panzer: Op. Star).
In CC, you have the message box which contains messages from the teams such as:
"1st Rifle Squad"
Redeploying successful
or
"60mm Mortar"
Taking Cover
You got a clear view of everything in 2 seconds in CC, where as in CM you
have to scrub the turn and pretty much check every unit to see if they took
fire or not. Pisses me off. :stare:
Tho, I do give credit to CM for what it is, it does some things very well.
Gets easier with practice. I've been playing them now since 2000 and through SF so it's almost second nature, especially in Wego. In real-time it can be a pain to find out who is doing the shooting but it all adds to the chaos!
Well I had a lot of help from some guy who made a 2 hour playthrough of the
training mission, explaining stuff as he goes, so I'm pretty confident about most
things.
What's the cone thingy in the unit info window, the kinda striped thingamaling? Tends to be mostly black most of the time, but I've seen parts
of it go red/yellow/green. :hmmm:
----------
All is going as planned so far, but I just went over turn 2, so not saying much. :O:
81mm barrage ended and I cancelled the 60mm's and started moving them
forwards to the first forest. The left side forest has a nice view to the town,
it's higher than the surrounding terrain so I might keep the M10 TD hidden there.
Should get shots out if Crécy brings armor near to my side of the town. :yep:

What, I started already rubbing my hands together when I read the words: "****loads of infantry." There are at least 1,000 different ways to make the other poor bastard die for his country, you know...
More seriously speaking, I'm looking forward to reading this. Combat Mission 2 (the one with the Finns) used to be permanent resident on my computer. I sort of lost interest in the series when it went modern era, but this looks interesting once more.
Just don't make it too interesting! Those sods at the Crusader Kings 2 thread managed to convince me to buy the bloody game despite of my promises, and I can't afford getting too curious for my own good again! :stare:
What's the cone thingy in the unit info window, the kinda striped thingamaling? Tends to be mostly black most of the time, but I've seen parts

It's the suppression indicator. Like bad language, the more colourful it is, the worse things probably are...:D
It's the suppression indicator. Like bad language, the more colourful it is, the worse things probably are...:D
Ah right, thanks. :salute:
Guess I have to read that manual a bit. :hmmm:
--------------------------------
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/T03_01.jpg
Turn 3's over, no sign of Crécy, but I'm expecting contact on my left flank anytime now.
If he has a right flank, that is. :hmmm:
Kinda balls'd up with the C2 network, should've paid more attention where everyone
is. Currently, most of my B company is on the left flank, but my B company HQ
is on my right flank. :damn: A bit risky to start moving the HQ across at this point,
so B company have to do without for now.
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/T06_01.jpg
Everything remains quiet. Scouts from 4th Platoon / B Coy check out the forest
ahead on my left flank, rest of 4th platoon will move in on next turn.
First to reach the town are the valiant soldiers of 3rd Platoon / A Coy, machineguns
are being set-up on the top floors. Really surprised I didn't see any of Crécy's
troops. :hmmm:
Also, the M4 Sherman is in town, watching the road from the corner of the building.
Crécy's anxiety to play "one more!" turn before going to bed makes me wonder, if
he spotted some of my troops moving about in the town. :hmmm:
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/T07_01.jpg
Contact! The troops in town spotted 3 of Crécy's squads, with 1 identified
as a normal rifle team. The 2 contacts on my right flank are slowly moving towards
my 1st recon platoon which I ordered to hide and be ready to ambush if anything
comes close. Also, a single 60mm mortar will fire a few shots at them, might
scare him a bit but don't think there will be any casualties.
On the left flank, 4th Platoon continues to advance slowly and regroup with the
scout team and take positions there to see how this evolves.
Really would like more tanks right about now. :shifty:
TURN 8
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/T08_01.jpg
Hooray! First confirmed kill! :woot:He either took a shrapnel from the first 60mm
that hit just to the edge of the forest or someone with a rifle from 2nd squad got him.
To honor the fallen, I shall prepare a 3-gun salute, with 81mm's, right on top of
him. :yeah:
Other than that, it was a peaceful turn. Moving the M10 from it's overwatch
position to the edge of the forest just across the railroad on my left flank.
The troops in town are ordered to hide, no need to give away my position until
I know what Crécy is up to. :hmmm:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
TURN 9
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/T09_01.jpg
Crécy's dudes hiding in the house on my left flank will receive gifts too, in the
form of 60mm HE rounds.
3rd Platoon / B Coy will probably move in to the town within few turns and need
to start moving in some of the reserves I have on the right.
TURN 10
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/T10_01.jpg
3rd Platoon / B Coy enters the town without opposition.
4th Platoon / A Coy takes their place in the forest.
60mm finishes it's mission, scoring good hits on the building.
81mm should open fire on the next turn, might be too late now,
I did see Crécy's troops crawling towards my recon platoon just
a turn ago, so with luck they might still be there.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
14:15
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1415_01.jpg
4th Platoon / B Coy starts their advance on the left flank, I want to
occupy some of the houses and the forest on the other side of the road.
Couldn't have started this at a better time, mortar/arty shell falls right
in to the forest where most of my troops were just few seconds ago. One squad
takes casualties and their advance stops there, but the rest push on.
And it pays off, the unit hiding in the building is Crécy's forward observer.
I've been seeing some spotting rounds for the past 2 turns, so that should end
once I take this guy out.
Also, I spot his mortar team, out in the open. Troops ordered to start firing at
both targets ASAP.
Sent out some scouts from the 1st recon platoon on the right flank, no contact with
the units I spotted there earlier.
14:16
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1416_01.jpg
Oh hello! Err.. please don't shoot me so much?
I think I got the forward observers, I'm sure other one of them
is wounded/dead, not sure about the other, might be pinned down
in the house.
Crécy's mortar fire is deadly accurate, my platoon commander is
wounded atm. The mortar team I spotted on the last turn ran to the
forest, but the second from right '?' is another mortar team.
Probably have to pull back, I'm in disadvantage here being on the
lower ground and I hear a lot of squad-based MGs going off from his
side.
Bringing in another Platoon and carefully try to get the M10 to a
position from where it can cover the retreat.
I do wonder if he has set-up defensive positions with most of his
troops or if these are reinforcements? :hmmm:
Have to step it up and start moving troops through the town and once
the 81mm barrage stops on right flank, I'm going to advance with the recon
platoon until contact is made. I have a full infantry platoon setting up to
back them up if needed.
Did I mention already how it would be nice to have more tanks? :wah:
14:17
I think it's safe to say that the left flank's gone. Took heavy casualties under
Crécy's mortars and pretty much have only the guys that got inside the buildings
in condition to fight.
In hindsight, I've been balls'ing up throughout the game, not taking care of the
C2 network, not splitting up squads. Pretty much playing CM as it'd be Close Combat. :hmmm:
I spotted another mortar on the right side hill, but still no other contacts outside the
hills apart for the 2 units I spotted in the forest on my right ages ago.
I'm going to concentrate on occupying the town and scouting the right flank
from now on.
14:18

LEFT FLANK
Another minute of watching flying limbs and guts here,
not much more.
CENTER
Split up the squads in the town and started carefully moving
towards Crécy's end. Don't want to go too far, bloody scary
those mortars!
Oh, one of my marksmen got one his mortar guys from the right flank, yay!
RIGHT FLANK
I hope he doesn't mortar that area...
Aaanywho, sending a 2-man scout team to check out what Crécy is
up to on top of the hill. There's a small crevice on the far right,
which SHOULD conceal the scouts... maybe... hopefully.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

LEFT FLANK
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1419_01.jpg
Either Crécy's definition of scouting highly differs from mine or
he is attacking... think I go with the latter option.
I have 2 60mm mortars in the rear that I can use to fire across
the field to where Crécy's troops might be, if he chooses to come
across the road. Few MGs too I'll set-up in to the forest on my side
of the field.
Also, one platoon is ready to meet him if he chooses to follow the forest
down.
M10 moves to the town, rather have it there than constantly fearing some
bushmaster sees it and calls in mortars.
CENTER
Nothing worth mentioning.
RIGHT FLANK
1 squad from the recon platoon ordered to scout the forest ahead in-case
Crécy is sending troops to flank me.
14:20
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1420.jpg
LEFT FLANK
Crécy's troops reach the forest, but wait, 3rd squad of the 4th Platoon
isn't done yet! Under the cover of Crécy's smoke screen, they start
treating the wounded and get this: Kill every bloody Kraut that comes into
view! I counted 3-4 casualties for Crécy.
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1420_01.jpg
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1420_02.jpg
But that joy was short lived when I noticed something rolling out from the
forest: a Panther tank. I'm fairly sure I can't do a thing to it frontally.
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1420_03.jpg
CENTER
Just waiting and seeing how this unfolds here. Some minor troop movements
to un**** the C2 network a bit.
RIGHT FLANK
Someone from the town spots a german scout slowly moving to meet my scouts,
and fires on them. My scouts are blind, because they didn't see a thing.
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1420_04.jpg
Oh and Egan seems to have joined the fight, I shall make sure you die last. :O:

14:21
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1421.jpg
LEFT FLANK
Lots of shooting, but nothing really happening, covering fire I suppose.
3rd Squad is holding firmly, curious to see what happens when the smoke
dissipates, lots of grey ?'s surrounding them. Even saw one of the wounded
germans turn over, someone might be there giving him buddy aid, but can't
see anything due to the smoke.
CENTER
Crécy's making a push in to the town, things are going to get really interesting
here pretty soon. M10 moved behind some buildings to watch the left-hand road,
Sherman moved the same to watch the other road.
RIGHT FLANK
My scout team meets the enemy someone from the town spotted on last turn... well,
more like the german bullets meets my scout team, because they didn't see the guy
until he had already wounded two from the team. After a short firefight, the german
is shot, repeatedly.
Another team from the 1st recon plt continues the mission.
14:22
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1422.jpg
LEFT FLANK
3rd Squad surrenders, left now pretty much open for Crécy.
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1422_01.jpg
Lost sight of the Panther, kinda hoping it comes to the town,
more chances to knock it out.
CENTER
Crécy gets an MG team in one of the buildings, but the platoon
down in the forest sees it and suppresses it. Not before it wounds
the platoon commander, tho.
Really tempted to move that Sherman to counter the infantry.
RIGHT FLANK
I sent 2 squads to follow the scouting party on the far right of
the map. Seems like Crécy has left this side open. That or he is laying
in ambush.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
14:24
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1424.jpg
Looks like the attack on the left is his main push, tons of infantry
pouring into the town. The platoon in the forest to the left is pretty
much beaten, caught in Crécy's mortar and machinegun fire.
This is really starting to fall apart, so I'm going to move in the tanks
and hope it brings enough pressure to stall the attack.
Also moving in troops from the right flank to help defend the town.
14:25
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1425.jpg
CENTER
The Sherman gets in to position and starts firing on a building where
I spotted MG and infantry earlier. Both look pretty supressed to me.
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1425_01.jpg
RIGHT FLANK
The mini-attack here still goes unobstructed. Frankly, I'm thinking Crécy
only has his 1 mortar team and maybe an infantry squad here, but the hill
gives a good view down to the town and maybe I can even spot the Panther
from there and track it's movement.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
14:26
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1426.jpg
CENTER
Business as usual here, lots of shooting. The Sherman kept on bombarding
the building for this turn, think I saw the infantry pull out, MG still there
but should be suppressed.
RIGHT FLANK
A-ha! My scouts can do something else than walk right into ambush it seems!
Panther's spotted still sitting where I first spotted it.
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1426_01.jpg
The 2-man scouting team will remain here and observe the tank while the 2 other
squads start moving deeper into the forest.
I wonder if I could squeeze the M10 up to the scout's position via the crevice they used. :hmmm:

Carefull driving vehicles into sight of stationary enemy armor, always ends badly for me.
Tried it a number of times with a narrow fire sector set; my tank/destroyer would slowly move into firing position with the gun pretty much pointing straight at the target. Still the enemy usually responds first and gets the first shot.
Think it's simply down to spotting. Even if they know the tank is there (Do they? Not sure contact reports filter through C2), they still need to spot it for themselfs. And since the enemy is stationary and they are moving, they are at a disadvantage.
If the tank was something else than a Panther (which I just used to knock out
silly amount of Shermans in SP the other day), I'd probably go in and try to
aggressively get a shot at it. But not going to play that game with this kitty.
Not sure about the C2 network spotting, really only know it gives boosts to
units and allows mortar/arty to be called in faster. :hmmm:

14:28
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1428.jpg
CENTER
Crécy hasn't been able to gain that much ground in the town, saw some
of his troops retreating back towards the forest, most likely broken
under the Sherman's fire. M10 lost it's commander to smallarms fire,
stupid act to move it in the open like that, but oh well, hindsight and all that.
I move it back and have it watch the road from between two buildings.
RIGHT FLANK
2-3 units ambush my scouts on the right, ordered those still able to fight
to assault the enemy.

Uh... found it! Or, it found me. It turns out, Crécy had forgotten to delete
the target arc command, so the Tiger just drove down the hill and stopped out
in the open. :rotfl2:
Still, the troops on the field aren't packing any AT weaponry, so this might
go very wrong.
M10 moves to a position from where it might get a shot at the Tiger.

Crécy's mortars hit the forest on the left side of the town. Preparation for

last stand, maybe?
RIGHT FLANK
Tried to get in cover with the recon troops, but the Tiger got 2 teams. They all
have demo charges, but as I wasn't sure if the Tiger really stopped or was about to
continue to move on this turn, I chose to leg it.
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1431_01.jpg
Both M10 and Sherman are ready to welcome the Tiger.
14:32
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1432.jpg
Tiger remains in the field, shooting at the scouts in the forest.
Crécy seems to be planning an attack as he is placing smoke to the
edge of the town. I move the Sherman to help counter the attack.
M10 keeps it's position, risky as hell, but so is trying to move it
to a flanking position.
Left flank remains quiet-ish, still some mortar falling on top of my
troops in the forest, but don't see any movement.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
14:33
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1433.jpg
The Tiger sees the M10, but only fires at it with it's hull MG.
No damage/casualties suffered, the M10 pops smoke and retreats.
Attack is indeed coming from the center, spotted at least 1 AT team
and a squad of baddies. Quite confident that the troops I have in the
buildings will be able to counter it.

So Bernard has finally been transferred to the Wermacht! At least he will have a harder time to mess up any expensive vehicles!:D
Great post after taking out the Panther Dowly, funny stuff!:haha:
14:34
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1434.jpg
Crécy pulls the Tiger back to the forest, don't think it can see
much from there. But it can fire to the top floors of some of the
buildings I'm occupying. So, I'm going to try and flank it with the
M10, which at this point I'm going to assume is being seen by Crécy's
infantry as he is moving an AT team towards it.
Sherman moves to watch the left road, Crécy is making a push there,
so need some firepower. Something keeps shelling one of the buildings
in the center, doesn't sound like mortar/arty. I did mention to Crécy after
I was chosen to play US that I would've liked a Stug 3G, so it might be he is
rubbing it in by having one somewhere. Sneaky bastards they are.
81mm mortar barrage to the left too, they are pretty much out of ammo, so I
don't expect it to have much effect.
On the right, the 2 scouts are still holding ground on Crécy's side of the field.
They killed/wounded at least 1 german, but in turn one of them took an grenade
to the face.

Besides your Sherman and M10, what other AT assets do you have to counter the Tiger? Also is it possible for him to get the Panther back into action? Either as a static gun or back to a tank?
Besides your Sherman and M10, what other AT assets do you have to counter the Tiger? Also is it possible for him to get the Panther back into action? Either as a static gun or back to a tank?
Some of the teams in town have bazookas.
I did some testing with both Sherman and M10 against a Tiger in the scenario
editor and the M10 really is my only option. Unless Crécy drives the Tiger
to the town and I get a shot at it from rear. M10 penetrates the side armor,
but number of times it took 2-4 penetrating shots to knock out the Tiger. :hmmm:
As for the Panther, I THINK only vehicles that are listed as "dismounted"
can be entered again, the Panther is listed as "Knocked out".
Crécy's away for the weekend, so AARs will resume on Sunday/Monday
(or whenever Crécy can catch up with mine).
But fecal matter just got real. :yep:
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1441_01.jpg
14:35
Nothing of interest really.
Seems that Crécy's attack in the middle has died out, can't see any troops in town.
Ordered Sherman to move further towards the left flank to get a better shot at
Crécy's troops moving about in there.
Trying the pull the troops out of the "Crécy's forest" on the right flank,
they better be quick as I got mortar coming in there too to stop his troops
from getting to the treeline and possibly spotting my M10 that is moving into
position.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
14:36
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1436.jpg
Right flank pulls out from the bad-guy forest using the crevice just as my
60mm mortar starts pounding the area, good accurate hits.
The Tiger roars at something in the area of my M10, but the barrel was pointing
more towards the MG team next to the M10, so I'm guessing he is just peppering the
forest. Also, could be he saw the HQ team I'm moving in the forest on my side of the
railroad. I'm ordering the M10 forward, so guess we see on next turn what exactly the
Tiger was aiming at.
Center is, again, quite quiet. My troops keep Crécy at bay very well here. Althought,
it is possible that he has gotten into the town under the cover of the smoke screen, but
I see no evidence of that... yet.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
14:37
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1437.jpg
The Tiger was shooting at the MG squad, but just in-case, I move the M10 a bit,
so it's better concealed.
Sherman moves up again, want to get eyes on that white 2-story building on the
other edge of the town. Crécy might be hiding some troops there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
14:38
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1438.jpg
Time to get the town back. The plan is to have the troops in the center
move closer to the left flank and keep Crécy's troops busy there, while
the full strength 2nd engineer platoon, which I just learned I had, attacks
via the forest on the left. Sherman will be supporting the attack.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
14:39
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1439.jpg
The scouts on the right, taking cover in the crevice, try to advance again.
Haven't seen any new contacts there, so some of them might actually live through this.
Otherwise, the attack continues well enough. Althought, Crécy's mortars still haven't
ran out of ammo, so that might be a problem.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
14:40

No resistance on left flank, suppression is keeping down and I'm not seeing any new
contacts. Still, those guys he had crossing the road aeons ago must be somewhere.
Sherman moves up, I really hope he has no Panzerschrecks here.
Scouts on the right haven't made contact either, save for a wounded german, which is
a good sign. If he would have troops there, they would've given him buddy aid already.
One of the scouts is carrying an AT rifle grenade, so who knows maybe I can rattle that
Tiger a bit.
Crécy's mortars barrage the center of the town, some casualties. Hate those things.

Oh balls. Crécy's attacking the town from the right. I don't know just how much
fascism is coming my way, but looks like it's everyone he had in the forest,
including the tank. His mortar barrage kicked up too, hammering the center of the
town. Due to the attack I have going on on the left, the right flank isn't all that
well defended.
One of my teams carrying a bazooka tries to take a shot at the tiger. It'll be a frontal
shot, so best I can hope is rattling the crew and cause enough confusion to allow the M10
which is moving up, to take a shot at the Tiger.
Sherman moves to a position from where it can take a shot at the Tiger if it tries to come
into the town.
The scouts in the bad-guy forest race to the treeline to shoot Crécy's advancing forces in
the back.

Goddammit! The M10 sees the Tiger and takes a shot, but the shell hits the tree infront of
the Tiger. M10 get's one-shot'ed in return.

Both are losing a lot of men in the center, the Tiger is mauling the buildings causing casualties
for me and Crécy's men trying to get to the town are in turn gunned down by my guys. That Tiger just
might be the one to tip the scale on Crécy's favor in the end.
Left flank seems to be crawling with germans too, if I were to believe all the unknown contacts that
started popping up there. I halt the 2nd eng plt and send 2 squads to advance using the 'hunt' order.
Oh right and that Bazooka team I was talking about on last turn? Yeah, I forgot they can't/won't shoot
that crap from inside buildings.

Ouch... bad luck
Any chances of laying AT mines in the town to account for the possibility of the Tiger rolling into town?

Nope. Don't know how I'm going to stop the thing now. The Sherman can knock
it out with enormous amount of luck and a bit of surprise, but as Crécy is in
the town as I write this, he can track it's movement and act accordingly.
Also, after the loss of his Panther, I'm sure he will be covering the Tiger with
infantry.
Wish I could strap all my demo charges to the Sherman and just ram the Tiger. :88)

:haha: Could work I guess haha
How in detail is the damage model of the game? Could you disable it by blowing off a track?
How in detail is the damage model of the game? Could you disable it by blowing off a track?
It is very detailed, many of the inner components can be damaged. Optics, radio,
gyrostabilizer etc. etc.
The problem is that there's no way to tell a unit to aim at any specific point.

Center is hurting bad. Crécy has reached the town with at least some troops.
Most of my squads defending the center have taken >50% casualties, so not much
flesh to put against the germans.
On the left flank, contact is made with Crécy's troops. The Sherman will provide
fire support as two squads attack the enemy.

14:44
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1444.jpg
Crécy is pushed back to the road on the left flank. The two squads that attacked
now suppress the enemy by the road while the other squads move up and occupy the
buildings.
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1444_01.jpg
The scouts on the right I order to move deeper into the forest. I think Crécy
has gone all in, so I probably won't find anything from the forest, but better
be sure.

14:45
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1445.jpg
The Tiger started to shoot at the buildings, pinning down some of my
troops. Still, Crécy is taking losses trying to move more troops into the town.
Left flank's going well, not much opposition there.
15 turns to go!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
14:46
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1446.jpg
Guess it'd be a good idea to move those MG's from the rear to actually do
something useful.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
14:47
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1447.jpg
Whoa! Crécy drives the Tiger to the town where my Sherman is waiting, not sure if
he thought he could take it or didn't see it, but the first shot goes to the Sherman,
which hits the Tiger's wheels. This, for reasons I cannot comprehend, makes the Tiger
pop out smoke and retreat. Another shot rings and hits the Tiger's weapon mount.
Neither shot penetrates. I order the Sherman to change position.

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1447_02.jpg
Scouts on the right flank meet the enemy and the lead team is routed, no biggie, don't
really need them anyway.
On the left flank, Crécy's team still holds by the road despite two squads firing at it
constantly. A squad I ordered to occupy the nearby building now retreats under enemy MG fire.
1st and 2nd squads ordered to attack, I want that road... because!
14:48
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1448.jpg
Tiger seems to be back in action as it starts to shoot stuff, lose few guys,
but no one important.
Crécy's mortar barrage hits the center of the town, almost hitting the Sherman,
so I move it a bit again.
Using the smoke screen the Tiger put up as it retreated, Crécy seems to be
making another push. Because of the Tiger, I can't really move anything closer
to that edge of the town, so this might evolve into a cityfight.
Left flank sees little progress, Crécy has an MG team on the other side of the
road which keeps my guys firmly hugging mother nature. I'll try to suppress it
and head over the road.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
14:49
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1449.jpg
Crécy drives the Tiger into the smoke, to counter this I order a nearby bazooka
team to move up closer, they might get a rear shot at it if I'm lucky. Sherman
also moves closer, I position it behind a building I THINK Crécy has no line-of-sight
to, this should give the Sherman a good point-blank side shot if the Tiger comes down the
road.
The MG team on the left flank is the lucky winner of a riflegrenade, which kills the gunner
and suppresses the teamleader. I'll try and push over the road with a squad, while the other
squad checks my side of the road for remnants of the other enemy team.

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1450.jpg
The Tiger comes out of the smoke and almost gets a shot at the Sherman, but luckily he's
few seconds too late. Bazooka is in position to take the shot if the Tiger moves from the
cover of the buildings. Now, as for the Sherman, I'm going to try something completely stupid,
yet quite amazing if it works. I order it to drive down the road, take a turn to where the Tiger is,
hopefully get a shot at the rear and then make a getaway to the safety of the buildings.
Left flank is more or less secure by the road. 2nd Squad crossed the road, took some MG fire from
across the field, but no casualties. Rest of the 2nd Eng. Platoon are moving up.
10 turns to go!
14:51
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1451.jpg
Everyone knows that when a tank has to choose between shooting another tank and
shooting infantry, they pick the infantry. What? No? Well, someone tell that to
the bloody idiot Sherman!
The plan worked, kinda. Sherman got behind the Tiger and shot at it, but when it
came to take another shot, it opted to engage the Crécy's infantry instead. So,
now the Tiger has had time to turn it's fascism cannon at the Sherman and there's
nothing I can do. Tho, I can try, hence I gave the Sherman order to target the Tiger
and step on it, hopefully the Tiger isn't ready to pull the trigger just as the turn
starts.

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1451_02.jpg
Lots of german infantry in town now, if the Sherman is destroyed and the Tiger doesn't
move up, I'm afraid the Bazooka team will be spotted and killed by the infantry, leaving
me with nothing nearby to fight the Tiger.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
14:52
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1452.jpg
Sherman is destroyed, the bazooka team get's a chance but misses and is too killed off.
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1452_01.jpg
I split up AT teams from existing squads and start moving them nearer, but that Tiger
will be able to do some hefty damage before the 'zookas get there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
14:53
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1453.jpg
The Tiger is hit by an AT rifle grenade to the top of the turret, but that doesn't seem
to do anything (might damage the optics, they seem to be pretty fragile). Tiger pulls back
to the smoke.
Found another team with 'zooka, again from the left flank, so I'll bring them to help too.
Otherwise, left flank is looking clear.

Today, at 14:54, the two commanders of the Battle of Meet Med Town QB-156
met each other. The other, humbled and battle weary. The other, dancing around
the defeated officer going "NA-NA-NA-NA-NA".
So, Crécy surrendered on this turn and our match is (finally) over.
Good game all around, I'll write a conclusion of some sort later.
Thanks for the game Crécy!
Now, if you'll excuse me, I leave you with the debrief screen and go
leave my comment, of course like a true gentleman, to Crécy's thread.
http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x462/Dowly/1454.jpg
Thank you for the game, Dowly!
However, we will meet again...
