If this isn't the correct sub-forum to post this question in I apologize to the moderator in advance. Since the laptop here (the only computer I have consistant access to) won't run Silent Hunter 5 I purchased Silent Hunter 3 on Steam for access to the war in the Atlantic. I have been reading the forums here and there seams to be some sort of mod or mods out there to use with Silent Hunter 4 that will let me play the war in the Atlantic provided I have the uboat missions add-on (I do).

Could someone who is a alot better versed in theses games than I steer me in the right direction?

Thanks

Julie

The first thing you need is MultiSH4 http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=1110. This will let you create multiple installs. You can then have more than one version of the game exist side by side, which will let you run as many different supermods as you like.

Then you'll need to equip your U-boat version with Operation Monsun http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=134922&highlight=operation+monsun. This will give you the best available experience for SH4 u-boats.

Sailor Steve advice is on the money.

The best setup is for Operation Moonsoon is OM/OMEGU/Kiub.

OM has an Atlantic Ocean Enviromental mod or a Pacific Ocean Envrionmental mod option. OM is a very good game, but finding captial ships is tougher that SH4. It is compatible with RSRDC, so if you are in the Pacific Theater, RSRDC will have an impact if it enabled.

OMEGU stand for Operation Monsoon Environmental and Graphic Interface Upgrade mod. I believe it is created by lurker, who created OM, but I may wrong on that.

Kiub is the Kriegsmarine Interface for UBoats, and is by Karamovnew. It is is quite a good mod, too. The AOBF (angle on bow finder) wheel is a piece of work!

You use multi-SH4, a program, so you can run more than one version of SH4 at a time.

All post re OM should be in the ATO fourm.

so I have the operation monsoon and Multish4 But I am not sure what to look for OMEGU or Kiub or do I even need them?

P.S. Oh so the "f" stands for "friend" does it? Actually all I think of when I see Angelina Jolie is Jennifer Aniston. I guess thats just my perspective.

Sorry for the confusion. OMEGU is an environmental add-on for OM.

KiUB is included in the second two links. I'm not sure what it does, since I've never used it. Neither OMEGU or KiUB is necessary, but it's good to know they're there when you want to broaden your u-boat horizons.

Actually all I think of when I see Angelina Jolie is Jennifer Aniston. I guess thats just my perspective.
I know exactly how you feel. I've never found Jolie particularly attractive, and I don't like people who take "forever" lightly. I just thought the whole concept was funny, since I did like Carolyn Jones and John Astin.

I am not going to spend my tine explaining OMEGU or Kiub. Go the links provided, read about them, and decide if you want to try them. I use both, but every user has to decide what mods they like. OMEGU, as its name indicates, is an envrionmental and grahpic upgrade.

Thank you so much sailor steve - your guidance as well as all others here - is greatly appreciated. What is more, for someone like me, whose computer won't run silent hunter 5, the work and effort of all the people who made these player made expansions is not only a boon but important as well.

thanks to all who made it possible.

the install order for OM/OMEGU/Kiub that I use is as follows:

OpsMonsun705
OMv705_to_V720
OMv720_Patch5
OMEGU_300
OMEGU_v300_Patch7
OM_Plot_415 (this may be master file that contains subfiles with mods, and if I loaded the mods, the OM_Plot file will be empty. I did not check.)
OM_Med_Env (optional)
OM_Harder_Escort_12 (optional)
OMEGU_English (if you want English)
KIUB_Engish (if you want English)

I do not know if the KIUB mod is incorporated into the latest version of OMEGU, but I think it is, as I have it on my boat and I did not download a separate mod. You may be able to find some of these mods on the Subsim mods site.

For some reason someone deleted several threads from the ATO forum that have information on the above mods.

At this point I am sure I must be doing something wrong. I pasted in the following mods to the root directory of my game as follows:

steam/steamapps/common/silent hunters wolves of the pacific

I extracted them all in the following order:

OpsMonsun705
OMv705_to_V720
OMv720_Patch5
OMEGU_300
OMEGU_v300_Patch7

I do have jsgme but when installed but when I run it no mods show up and nothing seems to have changed from the base game as far as wars in the atlantic.

What have I done wrong? Anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Julie

JSGME should be installed into your root directory, not the mods. Once you install JSGME into your (example, some PCs may differ a bit) "C:\Programs Files(x86)\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific" folder, you should see a folder named "Mods". If you don't see the "Mods" folder there, create one.
Next, place all your mods into the "Mods" folder. When you start JSGME, you should now see the mods in the left window pane. Use the arrows (between the panes) to install the mods into the right window pane. The right pane represents the installed mods, the left pane represents your uninstalled mods.

Thanks much. I think the confusion arises from my expectations based on all of Bethesdas games like the fallout series. As well as a subdirectorly like "Data/Omegu" I was also expecting to see a master file like omegu.esm (which in a Bethesda game would be a master file).

Doing that now. Thanks.

Been a rough day. I think I need to blow up some ships.

Julie

P.S. Also, as was pointed out to me in a pm, I appear to have had a file in a file error as I was trying to enable package file rather than the individual mods.

For starters, you'll need to configure JSGME. There's a very detailed walkthrough available here (http://www.users.on.net/%7Ejscones/software/documentation/JSGMEUG.pdf).

In short, you'll have to create a shortcut of the application - right click, Send to Desktop (create shortcut). Now, right-click on the short-cut and select Properties. In the "Start In" field, write down the path to your game directory (C:\Program Files\steam\steamapps\common\silent hunters wolves of the pacific, or C:\Program Files(x64)\steam\steamapps\common\silent hunters wolves of the pacific if you're using a 64-bit version of Windoze). Click on OK, and rename your shortcut to something like JSGME - SH4.

Now, go to your game's installation directory and create a folder named MODS. Move ALL your mods to that folder. Run JSGME from the shortcut you've created, and your mods will appear. Install them in the order you mentioned above.

ETA: Ninja'd again. Doh!! :o :haha:

Copypasta straight from the readme (you guys DO read those, right?):

2. Using MultiSH4 (multiple installations of SH4)

It is recommended you begin with a clean installation of SH4 including the latest patches (1.4 for stock SH4; the U-Boat Missions expansion pack is optional). If you wish to use the JoneSoft Generic Mod Enabler (http://www.users.on.net/%7Ejscones/software/products.html), install it in the stock game folder, run it and generate a snapshot of the game files before proceeding. Do not install any mods at this stage.

Create a new installation of SH4 by copying the whole folder and everything underneath it to a new location. For example, you might copy the contents of Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific to Ubisoft\SH4 Custom or where ever it is you wish to put the copy. This requires approximately 4.63GB of free disk space. Do not try to reuse the SH4 installer. Use Windows Explorer or My Computer to copy the folder and paste it somewhere else. Rename the Copy of Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific folder to whatever name you want for it (eg, \SH4 Custom, \SH4 development, etc).
Copy MultiSH4.exe to this new SH4 folder (Ubisoft\SH4 Custom in this example). You do not need to put it into the original game folder, only into the copy.
Run MultiSH4 from this new folder and change the save folder name to something other than the default "SH4". This folder name can be 1 to 3 characters long (for example, you might use "Cus" for \SH4 Custom). The next time you run SH4 it will use the new save folder name. If the folder does not exist then SH4 will create it.

It may be helpful to also create a new shortcut, pointing to the new SH4.exe location (ie, Ubisoft\SH4 Custom\SH4.exe).
Install mods into the new folder, leaving the stock installation unmodified.

In this example you end up with two game folders:
Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific (default, stock 1.4)
Ubisoft\SH4 Custom (modified)
Two save folders:
My Documents\SH4 (default)
My Documents\Cus (new)
And two shortcuts:
Shortcut pointing to "Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific\SH4.exe"
Shortcut pointing to "Ubisoft\SH4 Custom\SH4.exe"
Repeat the above for as many installations as you want, always copying from the stock 1.4/1.5 folder.
In the event of a problem with FileManager.dll replace the corrupted copy with the original from the stock 1.4/1.5 installation and try again.

At one point I had the GFO mod with RSRDC 4.1 running. 4.1 is the only version of RSRDC that works with GFO. The other versions were TMO/RSRDC and OM/OMEGU/Kiub. I liked 'em all. Multi SH4 made it possible.

Incidentally, and I do not intend to rain on anyone's parade, but I think JGSME creates a mod folder, so it is not imperative that one be created. If you do, it doesn't screw up the mod file set up.

Now I have to get back to something important---watch more reruns of the Adams Family featuring Cousin Itt. (I wish he lived in MY fireplace.)

I am. As a matter of fact, I just tried out MultiSH4 myself, having recently acquired the Uboat expansion and doing a fresh start.

Have you tried this:

right-click MultiSH4.exe in Windows Explorer or My Computer
select "Run as Administrator"
run MultiSH4

and/or

right-click MultiSH4.exe in Windows Explorer or My Computer
select "Properties" > Compatibility tab
check "Run this program in compatibility mode"
in the box below select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)"
run MultiSH4

The only other alternative I can think of is that you've somehow acquired an older version of the application, which doesn't recognize 1.5. Can you point me to where you downloaded it, please? Also, did you do this on a clean install of SH4, i.e. fresh install with no mods installed previously?

*is baffled* :hmmm:

ETA: Nevermind LOL! Glad you got it working!
