Anybody knew this was around? Seems to be a RTS game in 3d space.

Here's a Let's Play:

Episode 6 has a nice multiple Cap-ship space battle with beam weapons.

Yes.
Few years back I brought a Space RTS pack that came with Nexus the Jupiter incident & Hegemonia Legions of iron. Both great games. I see on that wiki that a Nexus 2 is due in Q4 2012.

Quite an old one that, 2004. 4X Space Strategy has a long and varied, if sporadic history. For more recent alternatives, try:

Sword of the Stars (turn based/real time combat; get the Complete Collection)
also Sword of the Stars 2, though it's still unfinished - wait a while on this one imo.

Star Ruler (real time/massive scale)

Distant Worlds is another oldish one, closer to Civ in space, easy to grasp but hard to master.

Just off the top of my head, plenty more though. You might enjoy http://www.playscifi.com if this is your kinda thing :)

Nexus is a completely different game than all of those. Honestly, the best comparison is probably "Jutland in space". It's confusing as hell but really fun if you can manage to figure it out. There's also a pretty nice Battlestar Galactica mod for it that supposedly is going to have a new release soon.

Struck me more as a Homeworld thing, in the sense of being highly story driven. Looks pretty interesting.
