Didn't I just tell you to stay out...? :stare:
:nope:

Sexual revolution led from one extreme to the other. So the psychological and cultural consequences swing back and forth between extremes, too.
The indication at the end is what I see climbing in the West, too.

I read a somewhat similar report before, although the conclusion is completely different.
Stereotypical, young guys (like me) should be out there pursuing girls, but it seems like computers have taken over.
After all, instead of pursuing girls, I am home playing games on my computer, or chatting with Skybird on Subsim.
You can't expect me to have much time dating when I have Jagged Alliance and Skyrim waiting for me.
Also, I feel like modern students have little unstructured time. After all, I go to goddamn weekend school! So my Saturday is gone, and I work on Sundays.
I have little time! I would not waste it on pursuing girls (and only have a chance of getting laid), when I can go on my computer, and get instant gratification!

Neither Freud or this guy has a lock on human sexuality. The writer of the article also shows a distinct lack of understanding of D/s as well as any knowledge of its history. This is proven by his assumption that equates D/s with a simple type of sexuality. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
D/s has been around in various forms since the dawn of recorded history. If the outcome of a D/s lifestyle was a lack of of sexual desire, then one facet of the life would have disappeared over time. Such is simply not the case.
Yes, youth are looking to "experiment" with life, including dabbling in "kink". Some find it is not for them, others get turned off by the players and drama that comes from a lack of patience. *Too many just jump in to play, and miss the deeper aspects*
A few find something that resonates within them and they grow in the role that they find naturally. They find a deeper meaning that just a physical sensation that passes.
It is often said: "Ignorance is bliss" - and unfortunately on the subject of D/s, the author shows that he "chooses to be happy".

:har: You crack me up, kid. :)
Now this thing about unstructured time... is this a common thing among youths today? I can tell you from experience that one should stop and smell the roses from time to time... and if anyone gives you guff about it you just stand your ground and admit that you need a little time off. Look forward to the times when you can do that. It's good for the soul. ;)

Nothing but prejudice and ignorance smeared like santorum all over an electronic page. There isn't a single sentence in that article that has any scientific or social merit, and we are all dumber for having read it.

...we are all dumber for having read it.
I find that remark highly offensive. I'll have you know I'm just as dumber without having to read any articles!
Wait, whut?
:O: :rotfl2:
I'm gonna go with Molon Labe on this one. It is, of course, not unlike Skybird to be concerned about the sky falling, but (un)fortunately it is not. The article spins a series of myths about a culture that is known to most western commentators through media sensationalizations, and thus becomes plausible and easy to believe. It's believed in much the same way as the myths of the sexually-repressed Victorians, or the older myths of manly men and womanly women of old, whose shadows fall over those miserable unmanly and unfeminine (who knows which is which!) ones of today. Repeated ad nauseum, generation to generation. All of that is just plain old rehashing of the fears of the otherness and deviance of our own sexuality, which we'd rather identify with a myth than the messy and complex reality.

As both a practitioner and an educator, I would agree. Many of these "experts" have little understanding of the depth and complexity of D/S and BDSM relationships.
The problem is that with the advent of the Internets Tubes, it is easier for people to obtain information concerning D/S and BDSM. Unfortunately, a lot of that information is wrong. People experiment with it and lacking actual education sometimes get hurt (physically or emotionally).
The Japanese industry is producing pornography and while there is nothing wrong with that, pornography should never be confused with educational material. In our classes, we spend a lot of time making sure that our attendees understand that what they see in porno is not what happens in real life.
Most people never leave the world of pornography and go into the real world of BDSM and that's a good thing. One is not better than the other, they are simply different.
But in any case D/S and BSDM have been around for a long time and people are still boinkin' :D
