Thanks, lovely pictures. Those soviet, they put nuclear on everything!
Yes I heard from a visiting professor in nuclear physics that these poses a major security risk. They often contain radioactive material anyone with the proper equipment can get and sell to the highest bidder. Sure this will not make for an atom bomb but strap this around a regular bomb and detonate close to wall street or any other important infrastructure and you can severely interrupt a society.
Or he suggested even worse: Just hide it under wall street for 10 years and then when someone reacts to the high number of cancer cases you reveal that you placed it there. Then claim that you have contaminated several other locations as well , and then watch the panic spread...

The interior pictures give me the whole abandoned Chernobyl vibe all over again. Creepy.

I was just thinking of the game STALKER when I saw those. We're on the same page.

The creepy thing about the article is, that it states that all the lighthouse reactors are already plundered. :o
In the comment section, there are also some speculation, which type of reactors the lighthouses had, this could help to determine the amount of uranium in them. Very scary.

Thanks for the link. :yeah: Just looking through some other pages on that site including Not a Place for Tourists in Sevastopol, and Greatest Magnetic Anomoly in the World, alongside some Femen stuff :D.
Just remember to click in the 'see more of English Russia' rather than the tempting photolinks leading to 2leep.com. :yep:

Never heard of these, very interesting. I'm guessing they used an RTG for power...

Thanks for the link. That lighthouse is absolutely fascinating. I never knew they put nuclear energy into a lighthouse.
I was reading some of the comments and thought this little exchange was funny.
OMG Russians are so poor they can’t even maintain thier own coastline and lighthouses. Its such a pity. Is that why there has been a recent surge in ship wreck, sunken submarine in russian waters? http://englishrussia.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif
Yes, that is EXACTLY why the submarines sunk, because the lighthouses were out of order. Lighthouses are crucial for submarine navigation.
Oh yeah, underwater lighthouses, I get it……
