Ok first I'm pretty new to forums. I have SH3 non starforce edition, it came with game shadow. I have googled and can't find help. I run Vista x64 Home Premium SP2. Every time I run the game I get the "Protection System Error This application can be launched with release version of Microsoft Windows 95 OSR2.1/98/ME/NT 4.0/2000/XP/ Server 2003 only". I have tried everything listed.
*run as administrator
*update to 1.4b
*GWX3.0
*install outside of program files folders
*install and run with UAC Off

I love this game but I don't have the money to buy a new copy. I'd appreciate any advice, and feel free to ask me questions related to the game and my computer.

P.S. I'd also appreciate that this thread stay on topic, I will be monitoring for help suggestion.

Thank You, looking forward to hear some suggestions.

Try to run the game without GWX at first. If you've messed up the installation process, you'd be wasting your time to try to add mods on top of that. Furthermore, it's advisable to get a feel of the stock game in order to gain a better appreciation of what the mods offer.

It's been a while since I've installed SHIII from the disk, but I don't think I've ever heard of Game Shadow. What are your installation steps?

Game Shadow comes with SH3, and is a connection to get cool stuff. It is completely worthless, and you have the option not to install it. I recommend leaving it out, as it brings nothing to the game.

I've installed inside and out side of the program files folder. I have even set it to compatibility mode NT4.0. I have tried all compatibility modes, with none of them working. Maybe my problem is that's there is no drm/protection software installing. If that's the case how do I install star force or what ever else drm this game should have come with.

I dunno but you may win a prize for being the first person ever to ask how to *add* Starforce to your game installation. :hmmm:

Wish I could help but I skipped right over Windows Vista so have no firsthand experience. Others here will know more. I doubt anyone will advise adding Starforce if you don't have it, as it seems to cause problems rather than the other way around and will most definitely not play nice with Windows should you upgrade to Win7 in the future.

I think the DRM-free disk has Starforce on it, just not enabled. Ever since installing SHIII and when starting up my computer, I get a message stating that Starforce isn't working properly or something.

In any case, you definitely don't need to be adding Starforce to the game.

If I had my DVD with me, I'd gladly do a re-install in order to be able to walk you through the process, but I don't, so I can't

I can try to dig up an installation guide which is somewhere on this or another SH forum.
